Listening to the 10/9/99 Dees show and near the very beginning, "American Woman" by Lenny Kravitz and "Beautiful Stranger" by Madonna were back to back. What is interesting is that they came from the same soundtrack, "Austin Powers, The Spy Who Shagged Me". I started thinking of other times when a soundtrack had two songs back to back on the charts. Quick thoughts:
Bee Gees did it for at least four weeks in 1978 with "Night Fever" and "Stayin Alive" at #1 and #2.
Bob Seger and George Michael would do it on 8/8/87 with "Shakedown" and "I Want Your Sex" at #3 and and #2 from the "Beverly Hills Cop 2" soundtrack.
Can anyone think of other times that might have happened on AT, CT, or Dees (since CT and Dees did not always coincide with one another)?

On the 4/14/84 countdown, Shalamar debuted at #39 with "Dancing In The Sheets". Entering at #38 that same week was "Let's Hear It For The Boy" by Deniece Williams. Both songs were featured on the "Footloose" soundtrack.
Also from "Footloose"... On the 6/9/84 countdown, "Dancing In The Sheets" was moving down three notches to #20. "Almost Paradise" from Mike Reno & Ann Wilson was moving up three notches to #19 that week.
From "Beverly Hills Cop"... On the 2/23/85 countdown, Glenn Frey was at #7 with "The Heat Is On" while The Pointer Sisters were at #6 with "Neutron Dance".
Also from "Beverly Hills Cop"... On the 4/27/85 countdown, "Axel F" by Harold Faltermeier was up 8 to #22 while "New Attitude" by Patti LaBelle was up 3 to #21.
One more with an asterisk*... On the 12/14/85 countdown, "Separate Lives" by Phil Collins & Marilyn Martin was at #2. That song was included in the "White Nights" soundtrack. Right behind it at #3 was Lionel Richie's "Say You, Say Me". The song was featured in the closing credits of "White Nights" but Lionel's label, Motown, did not want the hit to be included on another label's soundtrack. Both songs were part of the movie.

Already touched on by woolebull but all 8 weeks that "Night Fever" was #1, it was back to back with another SNF hit. The first 5 weeks it was back to back with "Stayin Alive" and the last 3 weeks with "If I can't have you". Then that pair were at 31 and 32 on 6/10/78 for a 4th week.
And there was another time when #1 and 2 were from the same soundtrack on AT40. For 4 weeks starting on 10/31/92, "End of the Road" and "I'd Die without You" were in those positions, switching places on the 4th week. They are on the BOOMERANG soundtrack.

Would this count? AT40 1/21/1978 - 2 different versions of the theme from Close Encounters of the Third Kind in a row from the same movie soundtrack - #40 by John Williams, #39 by Meco.

Back to back soundtrack hits occurred twice with songs featured in 1978's edition of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". On the 9/23/78 countdown, "Oh Darling" moved up 3 notches to #18 while "Got To Get You Into My Life" by Earth Wind & Fire dropped from #9 to #17. On the 10/14/78 countdown, "Come Together" by Aerosmith dropped 12 notches to #35 while "Oh Darling" by Robin Gibb dropped 19 notches to #34.

In 1998, "Iris" and "Uninvited" were back to back at #1 and #2 from "City of Angels."

Iris and Uninvited are two FANTASTIC songs. Loved that movie and the soundtrack.

Had it not been for the Book of Records special, Casey might have played two songs from the Urban Cowboy soundtrack back-to-back: "All Night Long" (#25) and "Love the World Away" (#24).

Here's a countdown double. On CT40 the week of 9/4/93, "Right Here/Human Nature" and "Will You be There" from FREE WILLY were at #8 and 7. On AT40 the week of 10/2/93, that pair were at #5 and 4.
