The lead singer of one of the shortest songs to ever reach the top of the charts, Maurice Williams, died at the age of 86. I recall reading a story that the song, Stay, would've been longer than the 90 seconds or so but they had to cut out a verse that might've encouraged young people to smoke. soultracks.com/story-stay-singer-maurice-williams-dies-at-86/

"Stay" reached the top forty two more times in versions by The Four Seasons (1964) & Jackson Browne (1978).

"Stay" was the first top 10 hit for the Hollies in the UK.
Maurice Williams wrote and recorded the original version of "Little Darlin'" with his group the Gladiolas (#11 R&B, #41 Hot 100). The cover version by the Diamonda peaked at #2.
