The Passaic, NJ-born drummer made his first splash in music with the Turtles, appearing on many hits beginning with "Happy Together"... moved on to Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young in 1969 replacing Dallas Taylor, working on both group and solo albums by the boys... then to Jefferson Airplane, on their Long John Silver and a live album, briefly with Kantner/Slick/Freiberg before the Airplane re-emerged as the Starship... a serious accident sidelined him, but he recovered to remain in demand as a session drummer... link has Youtubes of "Happy" and a 2017 reunion with Starship members Pete Sears and Craig Chaquico... bestclassicbands.com/john-barbata-drummer-dead-obituary-5-11-24/dL
