I just noticed that there are 21 charts songs between this week's 2 debuts (posted on another website). "Selfish" debuts at #17 while "Not My Fault" comes in at #39. Any wider gap than that? Apologies if this question has already been asked elsewhere.

The Oct 17, 1992 show had more than 2 debuts, but the 2nd highest debut was at #26 (If I Ever Fall in Love - Shai), while Madonna's Erotica came in at #2 (24 notches higher)

On the 8/10/1980 countdown, “One In A Million You” by Larry Graham was the third of four debuts, coming in at #37. “Upside Down” by Diana Ross was the final debut, entering all the way up at #10. That’s 27 notches in between debuts.
I was thinking another week for this thread would be “Theme From Shaft” by Isaac Hayes which entered the Top 40 at #9… but “Imagine” by John Lennon entered AT40 at #20 the week of 10/23/1971.

Similarly, May 30, 1992 is also blown out of the water. It's true that "I'll Be There" by Mariah Carey debuted at #4 that week, but just fifteen spots lower, the Cover Girls were coming in at #19 with "Wishing On A Star".

While I know we are discussing AT40 (Billboard charts)--I do have a Cash Box show where the Beatles leaped into the #1 position from #43 (Jan. 25, 1964) and the next highest debut in the Top 40 was down at #32--Talking About My Baby--Impressions (a gap of 31 positions).

Someone posted this week's AT40 Hot AC playlist on another message board and debuting at #40 was "Save Me" while "Selfish" debuted at #15, 25 notches higher on the chart.

Even a chart for one of this week's shows beats that. The 1971 show had "Sweet Mary" debuting at 15 while the next highest debut was "Temptation Eyes" at 31. An interesting offshoot of this category is what is the biggest gap between debuts in which the highest debut was not the highest peak. The 1971 show actually has 2 debuts which peaked higher than the #7 peak of "Sweet Mary". "Proud Mary" reached #4 and "For All We Know" reached #3.
