A recent death from last month that I don’t think was acknowledged previously, at least it deserves its own thread. The drummer Geroge Brown passed away on the 17th of November, the drummer of Kool & the Gang. And when I say the drummer of Kool & the Gang I mean the only drummer of Kool and the Gang since they formed in 1964 with Robert "Kool "Bell. (This after the band lost a couple of its key members in 2020 and 2021). George came upon drumming in an unusual way. According to NYtimes he said in 2015 "I went down to a music store on Newark Avenue in Jersey City and took a $3 lesson from a gentleman who used to play with the Shirelles. He said, 'Hey man, you're a natural!" ; "So he gave me 'Buddy Rich's 16 Essential Snare Drum Rudiments' book (first copyrighted in 1942). I took one more lesson and never went back." But it worked... Kool & the Gang's records have been sampled almost 2000 times...they did a lot of Hollywood Swinging
