In all my years I never once thought I would be saying this....but I am beginning to take a liking to some country music!!
Our sister station, a country station, recently lost a few employees due to various reasons. New people are being hired, however since I am on summer vacation I have been filling in for the time being. My duties have been both on-air and this morning I board-op'ed Bob Kingsley (which was tough to do since I knew Casey was playing just down the hall, thats ok, I'm all caught up now!)
Anyway....some of the country songs have definately caught my interest. I guess I was always too quick to dismiss it, but now that I have spent the better portion of the past week being forced to sit and listen to it, I take back some of the "harsh" feelings I have had toward country.
And just what I need.....ANOTHER show to listen to every week!! Haha. Don't worry though, it wont be ACC!!

As someone who listens to various Country countdowns, I can tell you this....
Kingsley is a lot like Casey.... no guests, no taped interviews, etc.... all Kingsley, all the time... but I like him and have for about 20 years. In my opinion, his guest-less show is STILL the best country countdown.... however, there are diffrences depending on your preferences. But, personally, I LOVE Kingsley's show. He and Casey have always been my two favorite voices on radio.
Helton's CMT Country Countdown USA has one major guest that he keeps throughout the entire program. Thats sort of his niche. Its great if you like the guest. Helton's decent too.
Crook and Chase are the stereotypical homespun duo doing the countdown. They are very light and, while they DO have many interviews, the interviews are also VERY light in nature. They are what I consider to be the most "70s and 80s Country radio" of the bunch. Having said that, I still like them.
Foxworthy is exactly what you think it would be. There a few phone call gags, some jokes, very "Blue Collar Comedy" in nature. But if you like Foxworthy, youll love the countdown. if you dont like him, you'll hate this show.
Kix Brooks doing ACC is pretty brutal... and I LOVE Brooks and Dunn as a country group. He's definately the most country of all fo them... lingo and all. So, if you truly want country in its most pure sense, youre getting it here. But that said, his lack of radio experience shows on almost every segment.
Ill be honest with you though, if you want oen fo the best country shows, go to the BBC2 radio Web Site and listen to the stream of a show called "Bob Harris Country." BBC2 streams all their shows on demand, so you can listen to it anytime. I know its odd that a Brit would have a GREAT country show, but he does. He plays a lot of lesser-known (in the states) Country acts (some alt.country, canadian stuff, even British)... but its a phenomenal collection of music every week... it runs one hour.
KFKF in Kansas City also streams an all-80s Country lunch hour from 1pm-2pm eastern time. As a big fan of 80s country, I like this one a lot.
Just a few opinions there.. hope they help....
Thanks, Shawn

Imagine Dees about 20 years ago if he were doing country, thats Foxworthy's show. Meaning it is actually FUNNY at some points.
Crook & Chase I have heard maybe 10 minutes total in my life and it comes off as rather boring to me.
CCUSA is ok, the jingles are my favorite part of the show.
ACC.....ask someone who listens, not me.
CT40, while I have only heard it a couple of times since the show began it is still Bob Kingsley, still his format of the show, and in 2006 that means it is THE best countdown show on the radio of any format. One point of contention, on ACC Bob would play snippets of interviews he did with artist, not sure if he does that anymore now, but even when he did it was simply to make the point he was talking about before the snippet was played.

Bob did play a few short clips of artists here and there on CT40 yesterday morning. Other than that, he is essentially the country Casey.
