My recording schedule

A few people asked me how I record so many radio streams... Im here to now post my schedule.... the hardest part was actually making the schedule itself.... it was very difficult going to all the websites and finding air times... translating all air times into Eastern Time... etc.

But here is what I record now.....

(all times are Eastern)

MY WIFE'S COMPUTER

Dick Clark's Rock Roll & Remember (SAT 5am-9am)

... since you can stream BOTH Rick Dees shows "on demand" on his website, I do them at my convenience during the week. I also go to BBC2 and use their free streams to record "the Album Chart Show" and "Bob Harris Country."

And then there are things I get periodically.....
Sirius 80s shows for Nina Blackwood, Alan Hunter, and Mark Goodman..... Cousin Brucie on Sirius 60s..... and a few talk shows (Coast to Coast AM, Rollye James, Dave Ramsey - all on XM)

So, how do I do this considering all the time?

I dont actually have to spend any time doing it.....

I use the Total Recorder software which records online steams... and you can set it like you set a VCR timer.... so it automatically starts and stops at the times set. I have it on all three computers and it works perfectly.

Believe it or not, there are still some countdowns Id like to get weekly (Christian music, some Canadian shows, etc...) but I just cant fit them into the schedule.

Only question....

Do you actually have time to listen to all of that during the week?

(And I thought it was bad when I used to listen to Casey, Dees, and Backtrax USA each weekend)

I was about to ask the same question....

I know when I could no longer listen to the radio at work, I never listened to shows anymore as I couldn't fit them in anywhere.

Well, no, I dont listen to all of them right now in life.

But I think about it like this.... I wish I would have recorded (or could have recorded) AT40 when I was a kid. I wish I could have recorded my local stations year-end Top 100 countdowns. I wish I could now listen to a few cassettes or CDs of local radio from when I was younger. But I cant because I either coudnt or didnt.

I have a feeling when Im 40 (Im 34 now) or 50, Ill want to listen to Nina Blackwood do an 80s show.... Casey in both his first and last days on air.... Dees "doing his thing"..... Kingsley, Helton..... Dick Clark and Dick Bartley spinning the oldies.... etc. For many of my radio idols, they (unfortunately) may be in the twilight of their broadcasting careers. I want to document that as much as possible.... a chance I missed out on in the early to mid 80s.

I do listen to many of them as I record them on the weekend... but as with recording TV shows and sports on DVD.... I'm thinking more long term. Hope that answers the questions.

I wish I had recorded the shows in the 80's too, and kept the ones I recorded in the early 90s, and wish they all hadn;t been thrown out by some idiots in 2004 that I had, and I wish my computers hadn;t crashed twice causing me to lose years worth of shows. But all of that wound up happening, so I have given up for now. I doubt my heart will ever be in to collecting and recording as it once was.

Oh I can totally understand that. Bad things out of our control happen and then youre sort of SOL. Not a good situation to be in.

Paul, if you want at least a little taste of the 80s again or something, let me know and Ill send you a DVD full of various shows that I have. (To all readers, no I cant and wont do this for everyone). But let me know man. Its nto the collection you once had, but it's somethign that you can keep for as long as you wish.

And, by the way, I back up everything twice: Once on an external hard drive I bougth just for radio show purposes and then again on DVD data discs.
