The top grossing movie in the U.S. this past weekend was "Barbie"-Per Tuesday's edition of USA Today, the soundtrack album is due to drop by the end of the week-One of the featured tracks is "Barbie Girl" by the Danish-Norwegian group Aqua-It was initially released in 1997 & peaked at # 7 on the Billboard Hot 100-Twenty-six years later,"Barbie Girl" has been released for a second time & enters the Hot 100 at # 7. The new Hot 100 won’t be out for a couple of days. The article talks about “Barbie World” by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice with heavy sampling from Aqua, which already debuted and picked at #7 on the chart dated July 8th/2023, but as of last week climbs back up to #27 from #49. (BTW: The soundtrack album already came out 4 days ago.) Who knows the old 97 Aqua song might still re-enter the Hot 100 at #7!!! Two other old songs that might generate interest for the GenZers because of the inclusion in the movie are “Closer to Fine” originally by Indigo Girls, but in the film by Brandi and Catherine Carlile, the song is heard 3 times during the picture; Also Spice Up Your Life by Spice Girls (last one’s not on the Soundtrack album).
