So before I read the article, I'm thinking Cowsills? Gary Lewis? Turtles? Or maybe doo-wop?

No. It was Air Supply.

Many in radio draw a line between "oldies" and "classic hits", and 80s hitmakers like Air Supply tend to fall into the latter camp, but those are probably just radio marketing terms.

In any event, probably few have expected the host of Wheel of Fortune to be particularly up to date on current music, but next year that's what we'll get anyway.
