A credible news source cites that Ryan Seacrest is among the possible candidates for possibly replacing longtime "Wheel of Fortune" host Pat Sajak after he retires at the end of Season 41. Story HERE.

Because someone here has to start the discussion ... While I believe Ryan would do a great job hosting "Wheel" (really!), I wonder if he may bow out of hosting AT40 and/or his radio show when his contracts expire at the end of 2025. If Pat Sajak can make $15 million a year hosting "Wheel", I imagine Ryan could probably command a somewhat larger salary. He doesn't need any more money beyond that, and considering he will be 49 years old when he takes over "Wheel" hosting duties which includes some travel, it might be a good time for someone else to helm AT40... just my two cents. By the way... It took a long time for "Jeopardy" to name a its new host after Alex Trebek's passing. Somehow, Ryan gets named as new host just a week after Pat's retirement announcement without anyone else trying for the job?! Part of me wonders if Pat may have been encouraged to retire and if Ryan had discussions with the company that produces "Wheel". As I said, he should make a great "Wheel" host. For suggesting that Ryan may want to step away from AT40 given new duties, I'll now hide in an undisclosed underground bomb shelter ...

Maybe before Ryan does his "Wheel of Fortune" hosting gig in Fall 2024, he should be a guest host for a 2023-2024 season week on "Jeopardy!" when Ken Jennings or Mayaim Bialik isn't available.

I frankly don’t know who would be better than Seacrest to host AT40 now. While we might be hoping for someone who’s mostly committed to radio to do so, Ryan brings the combination of radio skill and public celebrity that isn’t easy to replicate (listen to many of the guest hosted shows under his tenure, mostly hosted by people who are well known but lacking in radio experience.)
And here’s a fun if irrelevant fact: Casey Kasem was the same age (49) when Pat Sajak took over WOF in 1981 that Ryan will be when he does.

I would assume that if they do replace him it will be someone that has a TV background. Remember, Seacrest was a TV standout with American Idol prior to him taking the show. The only one I see that comes close to that within music based tv shows is Nick Cannon. An he's already burned out on two countdowns that combined for 4 years. Maybe Kelly Clarkson to an extent would be a good replacement down the road. I would like to see a real back-up host like Bru is to Carson Daly on the Daly Download; or in the Christian Music world Stu Gray is for Josh Ashton on The Weekend 22. I really liked Shannon Burns who host the Canadian version of the iHeartCountdown. That said Seacrest is like Dick Clark. You tell him no you can't take a job, he will find a way to get one. He's the classic workaholic.

I think it’s great Seacrest finally got a job. I was worried about that guy for a minute.

Checking his watch and thanking Charlie Tuna.

Funny you should mention that. Pat Sajak was among the people in contention to succeed Casey in 1988 - the thing is, despite his trying out, it really couldn't have come at a worse time for him. At that point, he'd just signed with CBS to start The Pat Sajak Show in January 1989 (itself a quicker flame-out, as it happens), and wasn't sure how they'd have taken his signing a second big deal with ABC to do AT40. On top of that, he was still doing daily daytime AND nighttime Wheel (not leaving daytime until the end of June 1989) - so, ultimately he realized he wouldn't have the time available to fit it in.
One might say that if, for whatever reason, Ryan were to end up leaving AT40 in the wake of starting on at Wheel - that would basically be the reverse scenario playing out.

But on January 1989, Pat Sajak was replaced on Daytime Wheel of Fortune by Rolf Berneske.

Pat Sajak's show was getting walloped by Johnny Carson in the ratings-It's a good thing Pat still had his "Wheel Of Fortune" gig.

Recently I read an article stating Vanna White will finally be getting her first raise in 18 years. Wow, can't imagine going that long without a pay increase!

Chuck Woolery, who was "Wheel's" original host, demanded a raise from Merv Griffin & was promptly turned down-Chuck definitely had the last laugh as he went on to host the show that would make him a household name:"Love Connection".
