Cancer took the life of Swedish guitarist Lasse Wellander on April 7 at the age of 70. Lasse began touring with ABBA during their hit-making period in the seventies. His work can be heard on such hits as "Knowing Me, Knowing You", "The Name Of The Game", and "Take A Chance On Me". He continued working with Bjorn and Benny on post-ABBA successes such as the "Chess" concept album and the "Mamma Mia" soundtrack. He also played on ABBA's 2021 comeback album "Voyage". "Lasse was a dear friend, a fun guy and a superb guitarist," Abba said. "The importance of his creative input in the recording studio as well as his rock solid guitar work on stage was immense," the group continued in a statement. "We mourn his tragic and premature death and remember the kind words, the sense of humour, the smiling face, the musical brilliance of the man who played such an integral role in the Abba story. "He will be deeply missed and never forgotten." His family said in a statement on Facebook: "You were an amazing musician and humble as few, but above all you were a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather. "Kind, safe, caring and loving... and so much more, that cannot be described in words." Obituary
