Multi-instrumentalist David Lindley passed away March 3 at the age of 78. No cause of death was given, but a fundraiser to cover medical expenses from an undisclosed illness had been set up earlier this year. He played with Kaleidoscope, a psychedelic-folk group during the mid and late sixties. His innovative playing included using a violin bow on his guitar, a technique Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page would later immortalize. He is best known for his work with Jackson Browne. Beginning with Jackson Browne's second album "For Everyman", he appeared on 5 consecutive albums including "Late For The Sky", "The Pretender", "Running On Empty", and "Hold Out". He was the falsetto on Jackson's cover of Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs' "Stay". Other credits include Linda Ronstadt's "Heart Like A Wheel", and recordings by James Taylor. Crosby & Nash, Dolly Parton, Warren Zevon, and Rod Stewart. While he was an in-demand session player, his own musical tastes were expansive incorporating new wave, reggae, and other new world styles. David is survived by his wife, Joan Darrow — sister of his Kaleidoscope bandmate Chris Darrow — and their daughter, Rosanne Lindley. He would have celebrated his 79th birthday March 21. Obituary
