CHART DATE: June 6 In March, 2019, I joined Lou Simon and two other regular listeners in the SiriusXM studio in L.A. for a live episode of The Diner. Sitting in the next chair over from me throughout the second hour was Peter Asher. He's an Englishman best known for producing Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor, and for singing harmony with the late Gordon Waller. I was the quiet one that night, too shy and nervous to participate actively. It was still memorable.

Yup. Nine top-ten hits, including three number-ones. Then four clouds of dust. It's a tragedy, I tell ya.
But here's the thing. There's this animated video that my six-year-old son is totally into right now. It has four dark-haired guys in it, who grow humongous white beards and get chased by a bunch of reindeer and a purple dinosaur (hmmm). The song tells the story of an old sailor who lives in his own underwater vessel. Somewhere along the line, the four guys and all their friends get to live in it too.
Now, you know how it is with kids -- at some point he's bound to ask, "Daddy, who are those four guys?" They were just a passing fad after all. So what am I supposed to say? Is this a Santa Claus thing?
