On this day last year, one of my all-time favorite stations, WDRQ-93.1 FM died. On April 1, 2005, WDRQ officially changed formats and became DOUG-FM. It's hard to believe that it has been a year since the format change, and that officially marked the end of an era. I figured that the format change was some April Fools Day joke, unfortunately it wasn't. And just about all of the on-air personalities at 'DRQ were fired, and they must have been stunned that the format change was taking place. I have become fond of almost all of them, and when they decided to not use deejays with the new format, I thought they have lost their minds. Now a year later, I still can't understand why this happened. Well, ratings of course, and they played a huge role in the format change. I, like many listeners, was just devastated when this happened. After the format change, they kept the WDRQ call letter, however, I don't associate DOUG-FM as WDRQ. To me, they are not WDRQ, in fact, they will never be WDRQ. Today, on the one year anniversary of the death of WDRQ, I just want to say that the can take the radio station away from me, but they can never take away the memories. R.I.P WDRQ.

I remember also on 4/1/05, the WDRQ deejays were at the Palace of Auburn Hills that day for a live broadcast. There was a promotion, because Detroit Pistions playoff tickets went on sale that day. The WDRQ staff members where about to start their live broadcast. According to a Palace official, as soon as the WDRQ staff found out they lost their jobs, everyone left and the WDRQ set up was empty.
