Does anyone know how the affiliates for WT40 and AT40 compared when.....
(1) Casey was still at the helm of AT40 and they were both Premiere (2) The year 2004 when Seacrest took over AT40 and the affiliates climbed, but WT40 was still put out by Premiere. (3) Before either show went Premiere (this could include CT40 comparisions as well)

Based on little snippets of what I've read over the years, my guess is that: (1) strictly on CHR radio alone, Casey had fewer affiliates than Rick, as Casey had lost a number of key affiliates during his later WW1 years when ABC took over WT40 (see also point 3 below), and when AT40 came back in 1998, his CHR affiliates did not increase by much; (2) probably about the same numbers for both Seacrest and Rick when they were both under Premiere; (3) WT40 was always behind classic AT40 and later CT40 in terms of affiliate numbers. Things changed as AT40 started losing many affiliates in the late 80s and early 90s. CT40 was still ahead of both of them. But with the fragmentation of radio and ABC acquiring WT40 in July 1994, WT40 beat over CT40 in terms of numbers during the later CT40 years. The key was that Rick was willing to customize his show to fit local affiliates' playlists, something that CT40 refused to do.

We may see Backtrax get dropped by more CC stations. This was the message posted on the Premiere FTP site on Jan 1st in the Backtrax folders... IMPORTANT: BACKTRAX AFFILIATES You must obtain a new user name and password from X Radio Networks to access BACKTRAX 80s and/or 90s. Please call Danny Kutrick at 212-419-2926, or email him directly. DKutrick@XRadioNetworks.com Looks like X Radio Networks is syndicating Backtrax now. Sadly, I believe this is the case with ALL Premiere programming. It is far from coincidence that nearly every CC Hot AC station plays AT20 and Backtrax USA....every CHR station plays AT40 (and used to play WT40)....and AC station plays AT10 and Delilah.

For whatever it's worth, unless CC forces their stations to stop airing the show, I don't see Backtrax USA being hurt much by being dropped by Premiere if that does indeed happen. It's also possible I guess that with Kid Kelly working for Sirius he may want some type of arrangement to allow the show to be broadcast on there as well. Who knows? I dont think the show will be hurt much by not being a Premiere show, but I have no eveidence to suggest why.

I haven't known any stations to have dropped Backtrax. Although I have noticed recently that backtrax.com is down.

Rick Dees returns in L.A. morning shift soon, not since March 2004!
KZLA (formerly a Country format ) now called L.A. Gets Movin' 93-9(Urban AC) Aug. 17, 2006 By Keith Berman
We teased that something big might be happening with consultant Alan Burns' rhythmic AC format known as "Movin,'" and this morning (Aug. 17) Emmis detonated country on KZLA/Los Angeles and installed "Movin' 93.9" in its place. Market veteran Rick Dees signs on to do mornings on the new station, which is calling itself "The Mix That Makes You Move."
This "move" marks Dees' triumphant return to the Los Angeles airwaves, following his March 2004 exit from mornings at crosstown Clear Channel CHR/top 40 KIIS, where he ruled for more than 20 years.
KZLA's country format, which has been on since the early '80s, moves over to its HD2 channel and will stream on the station's Web site.
Emmis VP of programming and KPWR (Power)/L.A. PD Jimmy Steal is taking on programming responsibilities for the new Movin' 93.9, which will soon take new calls. KZLA PD R.J. Curtis will stay on to help through the transition, but the entire airstaff has been let go, including morning co-hosts Peter Tilden and Ashley Paige, midday jock Shawn Parr, afternoon host Whitney Allen and night guy Brian Douglas.
Meanwhile, Dees will not be the only live jock on the station. R&R has learned that Emmis is now searching for airstaff to round out the rest of the new station's lineup.
In the most recent Arbitron ratings, KZLA scored a 1.7 12+, which ranked it No. 20 in the market. In the 25-54 demo, KZLA ranked No. 21 in Los Angeles with a 1.8 share.
