Thyroid cancer took the life of Joanna Simon on October 19, one day before her 86th birthday
Joanna was an acclaimed mezzo-soprano opera singer, performing concerts internationally from 1962 to 1986. She was also a regular on the talk show circuit, and was the musical guest on Ed Sullivan's last show March 28, 1971. Joanna retired in 1986, but would occasionally perform in the late 1990s.
Upon retirement, Joanna became arts correspondent for the PBS McNeil-Lehrer News Hour. She received an Emmy in 1991 for her report on mental illness and creativity.
Joanna Simon was married to novelist and journalist Gerald Walker from 1976 until his death in 2004. She was the companion of Walter Cronkite from 2005 until his death in 2009.
In 1984, she was a singer in the recording of her sister Carly's song "Turn of the Tide" which was commissioned by the Democratic Party for use in political campaigning. She also performed as a backup singer on some of her albums.

Metastatic breast cancer took the life of Lucy Simon on October 20 at the age of 82.
With her sister Carly, they would reach the Hot 100 as the Simon Sisters in the mid-sixties peaking at #73 with "Wynken Blynken and Nod". They would record three albums as a duo. With her husband David Levine, they won Grammy awards in 1981 and 1983 in the Best Recording for Children category for "Harmony" and "Harmony 2".
In 1991, Lucy was nominated for a Tony as musical composer of "The Secret Garden". She also composed the music for "Doctor Zhivago - A New Musical" which had a brief run on Broadway in 2015.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years David Y. Levine, daughter Julie and son James.
