In the video version of Janet Jackson's late 1989 / early 1990 #2 pop hit "Rhythm Nation" there's counting down in the intro: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

In the video version of Janet Jackson's late 1989 / early 1990 #2 pop hit "Rhythm Nation" there's counting down in the intro: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. I remember Rick Dees using that snippet in some of his 1990s shows.

The Boss had one of the most dramatic countdowns of all in "Born To Run". After the tension-building instrumental bridge, he introduces the final verse with a cry of "One, two, three, four" before re-opening the floodgates of desperation.

What's your take on including Three Dog Night's "One" or Bill Haley and His Comet's "Rock Around The Clock?"
I wish Eurythmics had hit the top 40 in early 1985 with "Doubleplusgood." The ending has Annie attempting to count down from 10 to 1, several times, but never quite getting there.

New Radicals, "You Get What You Give," Gregg Alexander screams "1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4!"

Three Dog Night. '3DN' would've been a better abbreviation.

This may not count, but Eddie Rabbitt's "Step By Step" mentions the first, second and third steps of how to "win her love".

Outkast's "Hey Ya" starts with "1-2-3"!

How about The J. Giles Band's "I Do" which has "1-2-a-1-2-3-4"?

This may not count, but Eddie Rabbitt's "Step By Step" mentions the first, second and third steps of how to "win her love". Works for me. I knew there was an early '80s song that did that, but couldn't nail it down--you did!

Janet Jackson says "1, 2, 3, 4!" in the video version of her hit "Black Cat".

Most recently there was “10 Things I Hate About You” by Leah Kate.
Also Beyonce had “Countdown” which sampled the counting from Boyz II Men’s “Uh Ahh.”

How about The J. Giles Band's "I Do" which has "1-2-a-1-2-3-4"? They also say, "1, 2, 3, 4!" after the false ending in "Centerfold", right before the music starts up again.

There are two songs on this week's 80s show (10/31/80) featuring counting. At #10 is "Step By Step" by Eddie Rabbitt which contains the lyrics, "You take that first step, ask her out and treat her like a lady / Second step, tell her she's the one you're dreaming of / Third step, take her in your arms and never let her go."
Towards the end of Pat Benatar's "Promises In The Dark" at #38, a guitarist (Neil Gerardo?) counts, "1, 2, 3, 4!" before she belts and holds, "DARK!"

One that's right in the title: "5-10-15-20 (25-30 Years Of Love)", the Presidents, 1970. Assume counting in multiples counts. From the same year, "A-B-C, easy as 1-2-3..." A different "1-2-3" was a different #2 pre-AT40 hit for Len Barry in 1965. As was "1-2-3 Red Light" by the 1910 Fruitgum Co. (Joey Levine) in 1968. I'll probably think of more. Should the Presidents be included in this? The song was obviously a fraud. Only Nixon, Johnson and Truman were alive, and I don't think any of them were on it, not singing lead anyway. Maybe they produced it and it was one of those Quincy Jones or Sergio Mendes kind of things.
