Tragically Olivia has lost her fight with Breast Cancer. She will be missed. RIP. Ironically on the 42nd Anniversary of Xanadu's release, August 8, 1980 (8/8/80) may Olivia Newton-John rest in peace.

She was one of those who was so great as a country singer back in the mid-1970s, and added so much to the genre. I was only a youngster then, but I remember so many of those songs: "Let Me Be There," "If You Love Me Let Me Know," "I Honestly Love You," "Have You Never Been Mellow," "Please Mr. Please," "Something Better To Do," "Let It Shine" and so many others that were top 5 and top 10 smashes on both the country and pop charts.
We all loved her in Grease, where she had her last top 20 country hit: "Hopelessly Devoted To You." And then of course came "Magic" (from the Xanadu soundtrack) and "Physical" ... and it was pure Olivia to be sure.
RIP. Thanks for adding grace and beauty and inspiration to both genres.

Sad to hear but really enjoyed most of her hits from the early stuff--If Not For You (Bob Dylan song) all the way up to Twist of Fate. She had a great ability to pick the songs that she could really deliver. In interviews I saw, she seemed to be a real down to earth person.

The accomplishments that lady did and the battles she had to endure with multiple bouts of cancer. I am crying as I type this so forgive me if I make mistakes. This is just so heartbreaking...she leaves a legacy of fine music though--especially the biggest song of the 1980s. She will have a song on this week's 1978 Premiere Countdown "Hopelessly Devoted To You." Last note--John Travolta will be affected by this, and he has had deaths from a child and wife recently, so this will hit him hard. Sorry if I went on too long--I am still in tears!

So sad. She and Jeff Conaway are together again. They starred in Grease. Most cable networks air the 1998 version. IFC airs the original 1978 version with the original Paramount fanfare logo at the beginning.

Was working today when the news came over the radio-AC formatted WEBE 108 in Westport,CT made the announcement-Their afternoon drive time guy,Allan Lamberti, played three ONJ classics "Physical","Magic" & "You're The One I Want" her "Grease" duet with John Travolta-I'm completely shocked that she's no longer with us.

Does anyone think that Premiere will do an ONJ tribute?

I did not know that about Conaway and Olivia’s sister. The things you learn on these boards. Too cool. :-) RIP Olivia. What a talent she had and what a wonderful person she was.

Rest in peace; what an endurance, she was actually diagnosed with cancer first in 1992. Her advocacy in the past 30 years now will live forever: “Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute” is one of the prominent centers in suburban Melbourne, Australia.
Musically, I liked his country-pop period slightly better, she sang a great background to John Denver’s “Fly Away”.
My all-time favorite Hot 100 singles by her in order of preference: 1) Sam 2) I Can’t Help it (w/Andy Gibb) 3) Suddenly (w/Cliff Richard) 4) A Little More Love 5) Xanadu (w/ELO) 6) Magic 7) Hopelessly Devoted to You 8) Have You Never Been Mellow 9) You’re the One That I Want 10) Landslide 11) Make a Move on Me

I liked Olivia's music more after she had switched to pop music. My most favorite songs by Olivia are:
"A Little More Love" "Magic" "Heart Attack" "Make a Move on Me" "Twist of Fate" "(Living in) Desperate Times"
Never cared for "Soul Kiss" though.
Sad loss in the world of music.

My picks:
"Soul Kiss" (compares favorably more so with other songs in its time than with other ONJ songs) "You're the One That I Want" "Magic" "A Little More Love" "Hopelessly Devoted to You" "If You Love Me (Let Me Know)" "I Can't Help It" "Heart Attack"
