Hey everyone,
I just wanted to share a quick personal moment that I experienced today. As some of you know, I board-op at WXXO/WOXX..which is a Hot AC station in the Meadville/Franklin market. I board-op local voicetracks from 6-9 and AT20 from 9-Midnight.
Well...I soon learned after arriving tonight that the voicetracks had not been done for whatever reason...and the jock who was scheduled to do them was out of the building. I called my PD to ask what to do, never in a million years expecting him to answer with "go ahead and get on the air"
By the time we talked, we decided to just let the 6pm hour run jockless and I started with the 7pm hour. Those first few breaks were BAD (including a wrong song mention!!)...but I got over my nerves and started to get a flow. By the 8pm hour, I was "Brett the new guy" and got a few phone calls and everything. At the end of the show, I did a great end of the hour talk break I wish I had taped, as well as a cool tease for AT20 coming up next. I was getting into such a flow, I wanted more time, and for the first time ever I wished AT20 didn't have to start just yet
Afterwards I got a call from someone who just wanted to say that they thought I had done a great job. What a treat!!
AT20 is whirring away now (mistake free, as always and I am down to my once an hour weather reports....which I am doing live instead of the usual voicetrack method. I am going to schedule a meeting with my PD to see if I can become a regular with this 6-9 thing. Wish me luck.
Anyway....this was pretty much a post about nothing, but I just had to share this with someone. What a great day (and Paul and I had just talked earlier this afternoon about whether or not I would actually ever get on air).
