Hello everyone. I need your advice. I'm planning to buy a new computer in the next few months. My 1998 Gateway computer just can't handle the 2006 computer stuff. I'll probably end up with a Gateway or a Dell. I listen to Casey AT20/AT10 on the web. In the past I was able to record Casey from the computer with my old Gateway computer. Once I was able to save this to a .wav file, I was able to burn the audio to a CD. I had to use the Gateway 2000 Audio Mixer that would allow me to recored internet radio stations that broadcast via the web. I could never figure out how to record sound with the regular Microsoft sound recorder by itself. I had to change the settings on the Gateway 2000 Audio Mixer. Thus, any suggestions which computer I should buy? Also any suggestions on which software I need that will allow me to record the audio from the internet feed. Thanks in advance for all your suggestions!

Any of the current personal computers is good and fast enough to record and edit sound files on your hard drive. For good recording sessions you always need extra tools, because it's not officially wanted to record streaming media with any official Microsoft programme.
The only thing you have to look for when buying a new computer is: It should have a good soundcard wich can handle the "full duplex mode" ( wich means you can record what you hear on the same computer )

I use Total Recorder Professional Edition to record shows with, you can either record them from a regular stereo or online. And if one show is on both you want to get, you can do that too. www.highcriteria.com for more info

Well, I finally did purchased my new computer. It was another Gateway. I've been in the process of intstalling the stuff I wanted on my computer. Of course, I have not been able to record streaming audio from the net. Thus, if I want to record AT20 from a station that streams on the internet, I can not record it. I tried to load the old Gateway 2000 Audio Mixer, but it would not install. It was designed for Windows 98, not Windows XP. I was looking at the Total Recorder Professional Edtion via the www.highcriteria.com website. I was wondering how this works. Do you have to intstall an additional sound card in the tower box? Or is the a simple download software program from the internet? I did look in stores that have radio recorders for the computer, but I was not sure if those programs work for recording streaming audio from the net. Any assistance will be very helpful. Thanks again for all your help!

I have Total Recorder, you wouldnt need an additional soundcard. The one in the machine will do for off radio recordings. The software such as Media Player will work for internet recording.
Another thing I liked about total recorder is if you had a show that came on a local affiliate you recorded off the regular radio, and one off the internet....you could record both using the seperate lines.
I have had Total Recorder since November 2002, and I love it.

Well, Windows 98 was created almost a decade ago ...... what are you expecting for ?
And every Music lover should install an additional soundcard, because the sound from the on-board chip is terrible and not for professionals !!!

I just recently downloaded the Total Recorder software. Right now, its not registered, and I have the 5 second cut out for every minute. Which is ok, because it allows me to check out the features of this program and perform some tests.
So far, I like what the Total Recorder does. It will allow me to record the streaming. I'll most likely purchase and register this by the end of the week. Thanks Paul for the tip for the Total Recorder software!

The total recorder was brought up on another message board. I'm posting this message to move this higher on the board, so this person can find our discussion.

With as much recommending as I have done on this program over the last 4 years it's a shame I don't get kickbacks from the company.
