50s pop star Joni James died February 20 of natural causes. She was 91. Born Giovanna Carmella Babbo in Chicago, Joni was a constant presence on the Billboard charts during the first half of the fifties. Her first charting single "Why Don't You Believe Me?" spent 3 weeks at the top of the Billboard pop charts in 1952. Among her 24 Top 40 singles, Joni would reach the Top 10 seven times including the #2 hits "How Important Can It Be?" and a cover of Hank Williams's "Your Cheatin' Heart". Obituary

The Duprees had a top forty remake of "Why Don't You Believe Me" in the fall of 1963-It peaked at # 37.
