Another heavy song that did not make the Top 40 was Whitesnake's "In The Still Of The Night" from 1987. The next two singles, "Here I Go Again " and "Is This Love" hit #1 and #2 respectively.

That is a great song. Whitesnake had never found my ears until I heard that song on AOR radio. Bought the album soon thereafter.

It was too early to have been on AT40 but how about Tennessee Ernie Ford's "Sixteen Tons"? Is that heavy enough?

No, Led Zeppelin had 6 albums reach #1 and AC/DC also hit the top with For Those About to Rock We Salute You in 1981.

From the early days of AT40, I nominate Mountain's "Mississippi Queen" and Frigid Pink's "House of the Rising Sun." Also BTO'S "Roll On Down the Highway". Mississippi Queen was the one that I thought of immediately.

Yours is 32 times heavier. Gene only had 'A Hundred Pounds Of Clay', not a thousand, so Ernie is heavier still by a factor of 10.
