Ed was highly ticked off at the Rolling Stones when he asked them to change "Let's Spend The Night Together" to I believe "Let's Spend Some Time Together," which I believe Mick refused to do. Wasn't there also come controversy regarding Elvis Presley's swiveling of his hips--and asked that he be shot only from the waist up?
Great thread, but as the Ed Sullivan show ended in 1971, we are definitely the older group to appreciate this.
Me TV has 30 minute edits of the Ed Sullivan Show on Sunday nights.

Although I wasn't born till 1958,I had read somewhere that Ed directed his cameramen to shoot Elvis from the waist up-Keep in mind that Elvis was percieved by many adults as a threat to the American way of life-I remember seeing an archival clip with Ed interviewing Elvis & declaring to the world that "Elvis is a real fine boy".

Referring to the Rolling Stones appearance on the show, I believe Mick did agree to Ed's terms regarding that song. I've even seen old footage of that show, and I believe Mick sang "spend some time together" but rolled his eyes in a provocative way while doing so. On the other hand, Mick once said in an interview that he actually sang "Let's spend some ummm together" but knew better than to utter the word "night", for fear of the mics being cut off.

Regarding The Doors appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show",the group was told not to say the word higher because of the obvious drug connotations.

I have fond memories of watching "The Ed Sullivan Show" as a child-I remember seeing The Beatles when they made their initial appearance on 2/9/64.

Me TV presently airs "Ed Sullivan's Rock & Roll Classics" every Sunday night at 10:00 PM Eastern. They have changed to all music now with a theme--so far it's been like a year or tribute to musicians who passed away. Previously clips were of comedy acts and some music, but with change all music and LOVE IT!
