Philip Margo, co-founder of the Tokens died November 13 after suffering a stroke. He was 79 years old. Best known for their #1 single "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", the Tokens reached the Top 40 four times during their tenure. Additionally "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" re-charted in 1994 peaking at #51 due to its inclusion in the animated feature "The Lion King". In 1973 Philip and brother Mitch joined fellow Token Jay Siegel forming the trio Cross Country. They peaked at #30 with a soft-rock cover of "In The Midnight Hour". The Tokens formed their own production company Bright Tunes and record label B T (Bright Tunes) Puppy Records. The production company worked with the Happenings, Chiffons, and Randy & the Rainbows. The production company was involved in the plagiarism lawsuit versus George Harrison and his recording of "My Sweet Lord". Obituary

In early 1972,Robert John had a # 3 hit with his remake of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". Tokens' member Jay Siegel provided background vocals on Robert John's version.
