One of the featured songs on the countdown from 10/14/72 was "My Ding A Ling" by Chuck Berry-It wound up being the biggest hit for this rock & roll pioneer who launched his recording career in 1955-The song was deemed to be rather risque & several radio stations were apprehensive about playing it-Was curious to find out if your hometown station actually played it-In the NY metro area,Musicradio 77 WABC played my "My Ding A Ling" once-Here's the reason:Rick Sklar was the station's program director-His wife supposedly heard the song & thought it was absolutely filthy-That's all Rick had to hear.

I recall my Mom not wanting me to listen to (or buy) the single when I was a kid--even though she owned some other Chuck Berry records she bought in the 1950's. It's funny because now as an adult I really don't have the same affection for My Ding A Ling as I did when I was growing up.
I really don't think radio stations played the song enough to make it a #1 hit but it was the sales of the single that probably took it to the top of the charts.
