Former Kansas vocalist/violinist Robby Steinhardt passed away last Saturday (7/17) at the age of 71-He was suffering from acute pancreatitis-Steinhardt's violin could be heard on such Kansas classics as "Point Of Know Return" & "Dust In The Wind". May Robby Steinhardt rest in peace! "This is Casey Kasem on American Top 40 countin' down the 40 biggest hits in the USA, you know, last summer the rock group Kansas heard that a new movie called Heroes starring Henry Winkler and Sally Field, would be featuring their hit record, Carry on Wayward Son, so when the picture came out in the fall they went to see it, and the guys just broke up at the scene where Sally enters a bar by driving a car through the wall, what broke up Kansas was that they had witnessed that same kind of entrance, for real, you see in 1973 they were in Des Moines, Iowa during the state fair playing at a saloon called Fat Albert's, one night, there was a huge fight that completely wrecked the place, finally when the building was emptied and things began to quiet down, the 6 members of Kansas sat around tryin' to console the poor owner who just sat there shaking his head at the remains of his ruined business, and to make it more annoying, this one particular character kept staggering in, demanding to be served, and the owner kept throwing him out, telling him that they were closed, but the persistent little guy came back one last time, in his car, which he drove right though the wall, he gave the owner a look that said, don't mess with me man, then he drove out, through a different wall, and that's Kansas' favorite story (laughs) about the guy, who makes doors where there aren't any, their latest hit moves up 11 notches to #12 this week, it's, Dust in the Wind..." - Casey Kasem's American Top 40 from March 25th, 1978 That story reminds me of what happens in the music video for Hold On Tight by ELO! My all-time favorite songs by Kansas are... Dust in the Wind (#6 AT40 1978, #39 The Top 100 Hits of 1978) Point of Know Return (#28 AT40 1978) Carry on Wayward Son (#11 AT40 1977, #59 AT40's Top 100 Hits of 1977 & #60 Opus 77)
