Since this pertains to Casey shows as a whole, I figure I would put it in General.
Historic Moment # 1: (obvious) Casey Kasem's longest streak of doing the shows without a guest host comes to an end. 85 weeks of counting down the hits - from the weekend of February 21/22, 2004 through the weekend of October 1/2, 2005. That in itself deserves a round of applause for Casey! And had it not been for that nasty cold, no doubt he would have made the 100 week mark. Up until now, the longest streak was 69 weeks...stretching from Casey's debut show on July 4, 1970 and lasting until October of 1971.
Historic Moment # 2: For the first time since 1978 when they were introduced - with the exception of special countdowns and year-end countdowns - there were no Long Distance Dedications read this weekend. While I am not sure of the reason, one can assume it was due to the guest host. Charlie read the address and told us that we could send Casey our long distance dedications - so I assume they will resume next week. As I stated in another thread in the AT10 forum, I think this is a good idea. I believe the letters are addressed to Casey and should be read by him.
Quite the weekend for the Casey shows!

And there was of course Historic Moment #3 this weekend, Brett...
While Charlie Tuna sat in for Casey nationally, a specially-produced version of AT10 HOSTED BY CASEY aired in New York City. Casey sounded well over his cold and in great shape! Anyway, this is the first time that Casey was heard in one market while not heard in other markets (not counting affiliate mistakes, of course).

So they always record the same countdown twice? Wouldn't it be easier to use one footage and just cut out the extras?

My guess is that on most weeks, that is what is done -- however -- since Casey just started on WLTW -- the fact that with modern technology it was doable -- and since Casey was feeling better, it made sense to go ahead and do it this way. You figure it probably took him a half hour or so to do the show, and then it was sent via high speed internet line. Better than having a guest host your third week on a station that really seems to be picky on what it airs.

So I assume by all of this, Casey Kasem didnt host the shows this week because he was sick?

Exactly Scott and yes Paul ! Casey was sick. Just a cold. He's not going to die or his contract is going to end soon. And no: Ryan Seacrest will not take over on the remaining Casey shows as well.
Just thought I'd make the statement before the usual rumours out here ! Thanks !

I don't think there were any rumors being started. Casey had a week off. Regardless of the reason, after 85 weeks, anyone is entitled to a week off! Casey shows have had guest hosts since the beginning...this one was no different, with the exception of being the first one in a while.

I dont know who was starting a rumor, I must have glossed over his comment about Casey being sick in his original post. It wouldnt have been a big deal to me one way or the other. I would have thought he was just on vacation. Casey's not an egomaniac like Jon Rivers who thinks he MUST be heard on his radio show every week.

Actually, there were at least two other shows since 1978 that no Long Distance Dedications were read. That was the July 30, 1988 show, which was hosted by Hall & Oates. The other one was the December 5, 1992 show. I didn't hear that one, but I'm assuming that it wasn't a special show.
