OnWithTheCountdown, you'll be running into this song soon enough - I hadn't bothered to check this earlier, but it occurred to me to do so. You know how several weeks back I identified which mix of Robin S.'s "Show Me Love" AT40 was playing? It was a radio edit of the Nick Nice Eagle Mix. And as it turns out, CT40 played that too, at least once - on 8/14/93.

Same for the year-end.

Well...there's a few Weekly Top 40s from those few months floating around out there. Let's see how Rick handled things... 6/5, 6/12, 6/19 all have this same version. 7/10, 7/24, and the Top 93 of 1993, on the other hand - those had the StoneBridge remix. So, it looks like Rick was the only one of the three to ever play that version. It's possible that 6/26 was the week he switched, as Robin S. was advertised on 6/19 for the following week.

7/3, 7/31 and the 8/14 WT40 shows also had the StoneBridge Radio Edit, which is my favorite. (I have those WT40 shows, along with 7/24). I also have the 5/22 show, which it debuted on (guest-hosted by Jeff Wyatt), which has the Nick Nice Eagle Mix.

Quoted from the equivalent AT40 thread: Here's a..."sort of" one of these, in that it's not directly in the show itself, rather it's among America's Top Hits. And an interesting usage result as well. The Verve Pipe's "The Freshmen" was used twice as an America's Top Hit that I know of, on 8/1/98 and 7/15/00. Only, this comes with two different stories and two different versions of the song. For 8/1/98, the story is that the band spend a lot of time explaining that no, they are NOT the British band, The Verve. The single version gets played here, the one that is probably the most well-known (where Brian Vander Ark sounds like he's yelling as we get to the later part of the song). For 7/15/00, the story is that the group came together at a college jazz festival during the big closing jam for all the musicians. The album version that was originally featured on Villains gets played here - this one has more of an understated production, and Brian never raises his voice to yelling. (I say originally featured, as apparently later pressings of the album would put the single version on it instead.) The later one, obviously, would be the one that would otherwise go here - or in the thread for CT40 if they ever played that one in 1997. Going through the 1997 shows, here's a rundown of "The Freshmen": Album version: 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24 Single version: 5/31, 6/7, 6/14, 6/21, 6/28, 7/5, 7/12, 7/19, 7/26, 8/2, 8/9, 8/16, 8/23, 8/30, 9/6, 9/13, 9/20, 9/27, 10/4, 1/3 (year-end) At least this wasn't a case of back and forth, like other songs have been. They finally played the single version in its 5th week, and stuck with it since, in its chart run.

Got one from 1990 - Jane Child's "Don't Wanna Fall In Love". Not so much an odd version, but one thing I noticed back then, is occasionally radio would play a remix of this song, including a couple of local stations in my area. After doing some digging, I found out it was Shep Pettibone's 7" Remix, yet I can't find it anywhere, because it was only released to radio. This is the version played on CT40. While I can't find the 7" Pettibone Remix, the 12" can be heard here. I absolutely love Shep's remix, undoubtedly my favorite. This track was #1 on the 4/14 and 4/21 shows.

Janet hits these pages now - both Casey and Rick played the CJ R&B 7" Mix of "That's the Way Love Goes", though I have no idea how long for either. For CT40, I have an edited version of 8/14/93, which has that in it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4J7Dp2Jpod8

You know how the album version of "The Reflex" was brought up earlier this year on the AT40 side?
It came up over here, too - in the Top 40 Acts of the 1980s special (the one from Thanksgiving 1989).

I know CeCe thingyton (that darn censor!) had a completely different version of "I'm in the Mood" (with piano at the beginning) on CT40 than on Shadow's AT40. From what I gather, the version heard on CT40 was the album version.

Actually, it was the other way around - AT40 played the album/original mix, while CT40 played the East 87th St. Mix (which I like better). Rick Dees also played the latter mix on his countdowns (it's on the 3/5/1994 show, anyway). And, yeah, those censors...LOL

For Casey's Top 40 in 1994: Was the accapella version of All4One's "So Much In Love" always played on the show when that song made the R&R CHR pop? Shadoe Stevens AT40 played the All4One non accapella version of "So Much in Love".

Shadoe Stevens AT40 played the All4One non accapella version of "So Much in Love". I'd have to go through all my shows, but the ones that I've heard so far played the non-accapella version, including its debut on 1/29/1994. ETA: I plan to have a 1994 CT40 marathon next year, since 2022 will duplicate 1994 calendar-wise...so it won't be too much longer before I hear that song. I know I'll hear the heartbreaking end of Mariah's amazing #1 streak on 4/9...Ace Of Base was just too strong at the top.

For Mint Condition's "Breakin' My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)", they played a radio edit of the Brown Eyed 12" Mix: (Clay Culver's channel has the full mix, which is nearly 7 minutes long - this is just under 5)
AT40, in contrast, played the album version. Rick started out also playing the Brown Eyed edit until switching to the album version on 3/28 (at least, I suspect he started out with the Brown Eyed edit - I've only heard 3/14, 3/21, and 3/28, so I only know the time of his switching).

5/6/95: They played the Strat Mix Edit of Boyz II Men's "Water Runs Dry" for its debut week.
I'm pretty sure they played the Edit as I'm seeing that that only runs 3:53, while the regular Mix is nearly 5 minutes - but even the portion played in the show was not quite 3:30, accounting for intro/outro.
Unfortunately, I don't think the Edit is on YouTube anywhere, but the full Strat Mix is, to at least have an idea of how it sounds:
