Turns out, AT40 may not have cornered the market on playing unusual, not-as-remembered, or else otherwise "alternate" versions of songs. A few days ago, I mentioned a show that played an alternate single mix of Mariah Carey's "Someday", one that most notably does not contain the guitar riff during the music break. OnWithTheCountdown pointed out that it was played on 1/26 through 3/9/91. As of last night, I can add a few more entries, enough to start a list perhaps? These all come from the Top 100 of 1991. First, is Black Box's "Strike it Up", which really surprised me because it's an entirely different remix - albeit, one that was available on most of the single formats that were issued for it: Next, is Amy Grant's "That's What Love is For". That had its 7-inch single version played: Admittedly, this one's only notable to me because I've never heard it outside of countdowns. Possibly Shadoe also played it on AT40 at least once, though I only have two shows from its run and neither has it. The last is also a "conventional" single version that was played, this one of Roxette's "Joyride": Feel free to add more!

One from the Top 100 of 1990. Madonna's "Keep it Together" had the Single Remix played.
The multiple remixes/identifications are quite interesting for this one - it has a 7" remix, a 12" Mix, a 12" Remix, and a Single Remix. No two of those are identical!

Great thread, Mike . I've been listening to all the CT40 shows (got the whole run), and have noticed several different versions used. Seems like the early 1990s saw a lot of that, too. I ran through 1991 last year, and noticed the Black Box version was different. The Amy Grant version is my favorite, and I think every show has it. I'll have to check the Shadoe AT40s for "Joyride", which the US Single Mix is my favorite version. ETA: Debuted on 3/16, last week 6/15. In many of these, you can hear the sounds like at an amusement park in the background during Shadoe's intro (someone says, "Come on, join the joyride, get your tickets here!"), which would be the album version. And that's the version played on all the regular shows...however, I did find a pleasant surprise on the 1991 AT40 year-end. The US Single Mix was used. 🙂 (Which it also was in CT40's 1991 year-end.) I do have one off the top of my head, speaking of CT40. In many shows during its chart run (might be all of them), Karyn White's "The Way I Feel About You" had the Feel It Mix played. It's good, though I prefer the Radio Edit. (Hopefully those work; not exactly easy trying to do this from a mobile device.) I'm in the middle of part 1 of the 1992 year-end currently, and I know that song is coming up in part 2. I'll try to think of others.

I'll have to remember to come back to that one later on...though I probably won't come back to this thread until after this weekend, as that's when I'm planning to set aside time for that same countdown. Don't want to spoil myself, and all...

OK, I'm into the countdown right now. Not up to Karyn White yet, but there are others I will mention. Apparently the version of Jody Watley's "I'm the One You Need" that AT40 had wasn't one that only they had - it's in here, too. (The clip that was in that post has since been taken down, or maybe the poster associated with it lost their whole channel - either way, here's one that should stick around awhile.) I'm guessing CT40 also preferred the "rap-less" edit of TLC's "What About Your Friends"? It's both here and in 11/21. (My vote goes to AT40, who left Left Eye in, on this one.) ETA: So, I'm guessing the fact that you didn't come back to this thread after that post should've been a clue RE: Karyn White? (For those reading, the 1992 year-end countdown did NOT have the Feel it Mix played; it had the [standard] Radio Edit. Actually, it was also shortened, which I'm guessing is why they went with the Radio Edit to begin with.)

Nope, not quite...work schedule has been pretty busy the last couple days, and my next day off isn't until Christmas Eve, which I also have Christmas Day off, as well. Haven't had much time to continue listening to CT40's year-end. I'm currently at #56.

Listening to 2/8/92 and a version of Ce Ce thingyton's "Finally" at #19 that I don't know if I've heard at all was played. Rather than the more intense dance club mix that was usually played, it was a more laid back jazzy version of the song with piano riffs in the background.

Wasn't crazy about that version. 1992 had a lot of those. Been listening to 1993 this year, and there's a different mix played on all the shows I've heard so far of Bobby Brown's "Get Away". I like Teddy Riley's remix the best.

Turns out the week before that has it too. It sounds like this, right?

Yep, that's the one.
I'm through the 3/13/1993 show now, and the version I prefer for "Get Away" has been played for the last few shows. Will have to go back to find out which show had that different version played, which was for the first few weeks in its chart run. It's "currently" holding at #5.

(I think there's only one version that I'm familiar with...)

The last CT40 show I heard was 3/20/1993, and the version above is the one used in the last several shows; it switched on 2/20. Will be listening to 3/27 in the coming days; it has already started to descend after peaking at #5.

I'll give the nod to the one AT40 used - which, upon checking, appears to be the MK Rough Neck Dub: www.discogs.com/Bobby-Brown-Get-Away/release/202600The YouTube clip has it labeled as the Extended, but in truth, I'm not sure the actual Extended version (which runs 7:37) has surfaced. For countdown purposes, though, that's beside the point. MK, by the way, turns out to be a DJ who'd hit #1 twice on the Dance chart with songs under his own name, the first happening during "Get Away" 's run.
