Anyone who listened to the AT40 1971 Christmas special noticed "The Chipmunk Song" by The Chipmunks (with David Seville), the Christmas countdown even had a Chipmunks knockoff - "The Happy Reindeer" by Dancer, Prancer, and Nervous (3 reindeer in speeded up voices a la the Chipmunks).
I also know another Chipmunks knockoff in the 1950's - The Nutty Squirrels with "Uh, Oh! Part 2". And in 1976 there was a Chipmunks knockoff that made Billboard's Hot 100 but missed the AT40 chart reaches called "Hey Shirley, This Is Squirrelly". It was in the vein of the C.B. Jarbon songs of 1976 "Convoy" and "The White Knight" and done by speeded up voices to sound like squirrels - if it had made the top 40 instead of Red Sovine's "Teddy Bear" on August 28, 1976, would Casey had anounced it as a novelty inspired chipmunk record? I know "Hey Shirley" made Billboard's top 40 reaches of the country chart.

Also in 1976 there was a sort of parody cover version: "The Chipmunk Song" done by an act called The Whales. Basically it was the exact opposite of the original; it was three singers who were slowed down, rather than sped up. (Sadly it's not on YouTube)

"Fish Heads" by Barnes & Barnes, which didn't quite make the Top 40, sorta sounded liked The Chipmunks.
In 2000, there was a song that was especially popular on Disney Radio called "The Hampster Dance Song" by Hampton The Hampster which also sounded liked a chimpunk.

And don't you remember the #39 in 1982 song by Cheri called "Murphy's Law" where the line "Got it all together don't you baby" sounded Chipmunk style.

Wasn't there a similar vocal effect in Yarbrough and Peoples' 1981 hit "Don't Stop the Music"? It's been done on modern hits with samples. Akon's "Lonely" samples Bobby Vinton's "Mr. Lonely" and Kanye West's "Through the Wire" samples Chaka Khan's "Through the Fire". Both samples are sped up and Chipmunk-like.

Does the 2005 Crazy Frog "Axel F" count as a Chipmunk knockoff? Too bad it didn't make Ryan Seacrest's AT40.

I thought of another song that's a Chipmunks knockoff:"The Little Space Girl" by Jesse Lee Turner-It reached the top twenty in 1959.

That part of the song reminds me a little of the Salvage Crew that you encounter in certain areas out on the sea in the Zelda: The Wind Waker game.

When "Don't Stop the Music" was performed by Y&P on the TV shows "American Bandstand", "Soul Train", and "Solid Gold" as well as a music video for that "Don't Stop the Music" there were a quartet of animal hand/sock puppets saying that "You don't really wanna stop" lines.

Going back to the early 1955 year of the launch of the rock era: Do you think the Cowboy Church Sunday School's "Open Up Your Heart and Let the Sun Shine In" is a Chipmunks knockoff? It was later covered in a 1965 Flintstones episode by Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm.

I vividly remember that particular episode of "The Flintstones"-It was the first episode of season 6-There was a character in that episode named Eppy Brianstone-Rock music aficionados, like myself, knew it was a parody of Brian Epstein who managed The Beatles during that time.
