Throat cancer has claimed the life of Jerry Jeff Walker, who passed away October 23 at the age of 78. He was born Ronald Clyde Crosby in Oneonta, New York. Though he never scored a Top 40 single on the Hot 100 or country charts as a singer, he was a part of the outlaw country movement that included Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Michael Murphey among others. He did reach the Top 10 as a songwriter when the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band took his signature song "Mr. Bojangles" to #9 in 1971. He was also name called in Waylon and Willie's #25 single "Luckenbach, Texas (Back To The Basics Of Love)". He mostly created standards from other people's recordings such as "Up Against The Wall, Redneck Mother". His recording of "London Homesick Blues" (refrain - I Wanna Go Home With The Armadillo) would eventually become the theme for the PBS concert series "Austin City Limits". He leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Susan Streit, daughter Jessie Jane, son Django, sister Cheryl Harder and 2 grandchildren. Obituary
