I was wondering for quite a long time, why the AT40 collectors community has not going with P2P networks yet Are they so much behind the technical standards, that they'd like to pay massive amounts of money for CDR's and postage instead ? I believe the whole thing is simple: What you can't buy in any store, and just use for private property, can't be forbidden to trade for free. Others than that it is nearly unimpossible to catch someone on new clients like Bittorrent. Can anybody tell me about the situation .... or have I just searched at the wrong places ..... and there is a P2P collecting world for these shows outside

IIRC, I've heard that you can get viruses easier with IM software. However, I don't remember where I heard this, so it could just be hearsay.

Most of the really big virus infections are coming through tools like "Instant Messenger" or something like that. Much more than through P2P networks, from wich are only peaces shared by each member.

thats why unless you are on my buddy list, you cant send me anything without me allowing you to. All of my files are automatically checked when they arrive and I believe when they are sent out also. Plus to my knowledge P2P eliminates the "trading' aspect of shows. If someone can just sign on and get whatever he wants whenever, he or she doesnt have to have any available for you. If there were a true suggestion as to how to do this OR if i am wrong and can be shown how to, it is something I would consider if others wanted to as well. The other problem is I only know of a couple of us who have high speed internet.

I've never gotten a virus from an instant messenger. Don't open executable files, even if they come from someone you know, since if someone has a virus, they can send it without even knowin they're sending it. But I've never had any virus problems with trading shows via instant messenger.

With P2P you lose aspect of trading as it is an open standard and everything you share is available to everyone, regardless of whether you agreed to "trade" with them or not... Online trading on the other hand can be done through other techniques than IM (which of course have nothing to do with getting infected w/ viruses... it's as safe as anything else as long as you use it properly), f.e. (as Paul and some of us know) there's ftp-ing if you have the resources, such as ability to run (or hire) the server and highspeed connection to it. Or you could simply mail the files to eachother if your mailbox is allowing you to handle big files... this will take some time, but it's still quicker than snailmail
