As we're celebrating American Top 40's 50th anniversary this weekend, there is something I would like to know. Does anybody know why July 4 was picked as the date of American Top 40's first show?

America theme, of course. Plus the classic logo resembled Uncle Sam.
On the July 4, 2020 show, did Ryan make any mention of the 50th anniversary, if minor? I do remember reading about Ryan mentioning the 40th anniversary in 2010 (and that was over a year before I discovered and joined these forums).

Oh yes, Ryan made more than a mention, it was a really big deal and very well done. An appropriate tribute to Casey by Ryan! It turns out AT40 will be celebrating the anniversary all year also, not just this week. If you want to hear the show you can catch it all week repeated on iheartradio website or app, just search American Top 40.
