Sometimes from the Hot 100, but not from the Top 40, sometimes a mover, sometimes a dropper, sometimes for the last week in the Hot 100, sometimes a few weeks away from entering the Hot 100 ... but in any case a small alternative to the Premiere extras and maybe with one or the other idea. Have fun with it.

Bummer that Bananarama's "Love In The First Degree" didn't do better in the States; love the SAW sound that was heard on many pop singles in the late 80s. I have their greatest hits on CD, which includes that song.

4/4/81: Burn Rubber - Gap Band Find Your Way Back - Jefferson Starship Watching The Wheels - John Lennon A Woman Needs Love - Ray Parker Jr & Raydio Three of these four are terrific -- the one exception for me is "Watching the Wheels" -- just didn't care for Lennon's material from Double Fantasy. One guilty pleasure song for me at this time was Sister Sledge's "All American Girls" -- it ended up getting heavily sampled for Tom Jones' 1999 hit "Sex Bomb", which was huge in Europe but didn't get a lot of attention in the US (apparently top 40 radio here was too enamored with the lame teen-pop craze of the time to appreciate songs like this). Sister Sledge went with Narada Michael Walden as producer on that album instead of Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. It didn't pay off for them commercially, but they still had some good songs.

It was easy to pick those four songs. There are few songs outside the '81 40 I know and like, and despite the parameters given in the OP I wanted to pick songs moving up. The '88 Hot 100 has many more songs I know and like. For the longest time I didn't care much for Double Fantasy. Now I really dig it. I didn't know the Sister Sledge song, so looked it up on YouTube. It still has the Chic production sound, imo.

No, not as big as that other record with the same title by the group whose name rhymes with Bananarama. A song from the album "Feels So Right". And spring 1988 also saw a British dance-oriented group have a hit with an actual remake of an early 1980s country hit, that being the Pet Shop Boys' "Always On My Mind", done most successfully by Willie Nelson.
