So far, official AT40 sites/socials are keeping mum on any 50th Anniversary plans for the show. Also, as it so happens, 7/4/20 will be a Saturday! Given that the show would be airing on modern CHR stations, and therefore would need to appeal to its audiences, how would YOU plan an "AT40 at 50" show to air on 7/4/20? Also, what would you do for the AT40 70s/80s affiliates to mark the show's semi-centennial?

I said this in a discussion that was brought up about this a few years back. The optional extras would be where I put the historic look back stuff. One would be Casey airing the first #1, one would be Ryan introing his first #1, Casey’s last #1 from AT10 or AT20, and then one other. They will probably continue to ignore Shadoe Stevens hosting so I didn’t include him in this.

They will probably continue to ignore Shadoe Stevens hosting so I didn’t include him in this. It's not out of the realm of possibility that they could get access to Shadoe clips. Cumulus/WW1 let them use CT40 clips in their retrospective of Casey Kasem in 2014, after all.

I believe Shadoe had a brief mention or two in the 40th show and I imagine it would be the same for this one. I'd imagine it will be similar to the 40th show with a few mentions of "remembering Casey" since he was still alive in 2010. Perhaps a quick "shout out" from Mike or Kerri Kasem would be nice, but not necessary.

I hope Shadoe gets his just due in any kind of tribute to the show. The 50th anniversary should be a tribute to the AT40 itself, not just to Casey Kasem. Shadoe Stevens is a significant part of AT40 history.
Another big point to mention is that Shadoe is still alive and well, so he could even be a live part of it. I see it as insulting for Premiere to continue to ignore him.

After reading Rob's book a few years ago, I really felt bad for Shadoe during his time at AT40, particularly the later years. It really gave a lot of insight to what he went through behind the scenes. I listened to AT40 pretty faithfully through the summer of 1991, and enjoyed listening to Shadoe, even though I still preferred Casey (which soon became easier for me to follow CT40 where I was at the time). But I certainly appreciate the time and effort Shadoe put into the show. I especially enjoyed the Flashbacks. No matter what happens from the powers that be, I know there's plenty of us out there who haven't forgotten, and won't forget Shadoe, as a significant part of AT40 history. (And that invokes a special shout out to our own Shadoe Fan, who's enlightened us with several clips and stories from the Shadoe shows.)

I hope that Casey & co-creator Don Bustany will be acknowledged by Ryan Seacrest.

I hope that Casey & co-creator Don Bustany will be acknowledged by Ryan Seacrest. I am sure they will be. There have been several tributes to Casey by Ryan since his passing, beginning with the 6/21/2014 show.

Shadoe probably had the attitude at that point of “I get paid, I don’t have to actually listen to this crap on a weekly basis myself, and I don’t take phone calls for a living. I’m good!” I hope this is a joke on your part, as there is no evidence Shadoe had this attitude for a second. Proof was how he stuck it out to the end. I've heard shows from the beginning to the end and you couldn't pick out what was what just by listening to his voice. You can tell he cared about the show and he was honored to have done it. Read any of his interviews.

There have been several tributes to Casey by Ryan since his passing, beginning with the 6/21/2014 show. And including the 2010s decade end show from just a couple of weeks ago, which included a clip of Casey's July 1970 introduction of the debut show, leading into AT40's first song played, Marvin Gaye's "The End of Our Road". (Ironic song to start with, though of course it was Billboard's ranking and not anyone on AT40's choice.)

Any updates on what Ryan will be doing on the big 50 anniversary show? It would be a shame for the 50 anniversary to be guest hosted. Ryan has been taken that particular week off for the last few years. Ryan don't take this historic week off!

I don't think Ryan would take this particular week off because of the anniversary. They could always record the show in farther in advance if he wanted more time off.

This is very wishful thinking, why not do a Top 500. You take the Top 10 from 1970 - July 4, 2020 (so far) year end countdowns and play them in order or at random. Since this is a milestone anniversary, the Shadoe year end shows get played too. Those few years where there weren't any AT40 get the approval of playing CT40 year end special, the Top 10 of those years. Hey I know it will never happen but it would be great. After all 50 years only comes once.
