My local affiliate for AT40 has recently started doing something kind of different.
With the new "Less Is More" campaign on Clear Channel....the hours are timing out to approx. 55 minutes for the show. However, they also do not air the optional extra segments. But, after checking yes.net playlists, I can't find any stations running extra songs on AT40.
I don't know if this is a board-op, or simply the computer doing it to time out the hours....but if any given hour of AT40 ends prior to the top of the hour, the station reverts back to sweepers and regular music until the top of the hour. It's generally at most 3 songs, but it, to me at least, throws off the whole flow of the countdown.
I have, on rare occasion, heard stations add a song between hours, but generally I have always thought it was a goof, not for timing. But after a few weeks I have realized these are definately timed to be there. In the past, and back when the station ran AT40 w/ Casey....hours would still run early, but they never added extra music. And, the station is a CC "Kiss-FM", yet the songs added during these times are songs I haven't heard on CHR radio for 2 or 3 years sometimes. It's very odd. Just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this.

I'm not following what you are saying. I know ORLANDO'S ;D affiliate airs the extras on both AT40 and also AT10. Are you saying yours has stopped running it?

What I am saying, is that rather than running the extra segments...the hours are simply running short and the station is simply adding in extra songs so the following hour of show does not start up early.
I looked up playlists on yes.net for 5 or 6 AT40 affiliates and could not find any stations running the extras.

I hear a couple of Canadian stations do that with American Country Countdown all the time. I also remember my affiliates doing it with Shadoe's AT40 mainly, but I also remember them having to do it with CT40 a few times back in the day also.
