Even though this is primarily an American Top 40 site, I thought it would be interesting to see what other radio shows you do listen to or did listen to back in the day. I know we have done similar posts before, but I thought it would be fun to do it again.
Aside from AT20 and AT10 with Casey Kasem, I also enjoy listening to Kid Kelly's Backtrax USA each week. Although I prefer the 80's show, we recently got the 90's show in Cleveland and it is growing on me. A good combination of the big time 80's hits you hear every week as well as the "Lost Backtrax" songs each week.
In addition to Backtrax, I also listen to parts of M.G. Kelly's Amazing 80's and Nina Blackwood's Absolutely 80's every weekend to help satisfy my need for 80's. M.G. Kelly's show is good and the music is similar to Backtrax, but I prefer Kid Kelly as host and the format of Backtrax. Nina Blackwood's show seems to focus more on some of the more obscure songs of the 80's, and while many people prefer that, I don't like it as much.
As for other countdown shows - when I am at college I try to catch a bit of Dees each week online, as it's airtime coincides with American Top 20. When I am home, I listen to the Hot AC version of Dees.
I have also recently grown fond of Dick Clark's Rock, Roll and Remember, which I wont be able to hear over the summer. And I also enjoy Dick's AC countdown "The US Music Survey"

I love listening to old episodes of "Rock Over London" from the mid to late 80's. I remember staying up til midnight on Sundays as a kid and listening to that show. Also like Dick Clark's old "National Music Survey" from the early 80's, before he switched to an AC countdown. Really miss "The Lost 45's with Barry Scott", listened to it religiously on Saturday nights in the mid 90's until it left syndication, then on the net until the government killed it. Best of all, of course, is Classic AT40 with CK, followed closely by today's countdowns hosted by CK. ;D

I've gotten away from listening to radio programs in recent years. The only one I faithfully follow anymore is AT20.
I listened to AT40 sporadically from 1983-1986 and consistently from late 1987- mid 1994. From 1998-2003, the show did not air locally and I'm not interested in the Ryan Seacrest version.
I listened to Rick Dees from mid 1987- early 1991 and again from mid 1996 to the present. However, the show now airs way too early for me to be fully awake. But since it no longer uses an official chart, I no longer care how much or how little I hear.
I listened to Casey's Top 40 from mid 1994 - mid 1996, when my local HotAC switched it to AT20. I wish I'd been able to follow this show for the 3 years prior to that, but it was on opposite AT40 and I sometimes feel I made the wrong choice.
I only listened to AT10 sporadically, and now it's gone from my listening area. I will occasionally listen to Backtracks USA, which has been on for a good eleven years now!

this may be a stupid question, but since I dont listen to Classic Rock stations (I only know they are on there because the local affiliate back in Cowford aired Sniders show) I have an excuse.....are those popular shows for those genre's?

"Metal Shop" was big in the 80's, and "House of Hair" I listened to a few times in the early part of this decade when I lived in Augusta GA. Whether either show still exists, I dunno.

The only classic rock shows I am familiar with are Little Steven's Underground Garage, and the legendary FLASHBACK! with Bill Saint James. Underground Garage is filled with lots of unknown songs of well known artists and alternate versions of well known songs, while FLASHBACK! is kind of like Backtrax USA for classic rock with weekly themes.

I used to listen weekly to AT40 (1984-89) CT40 (1990-95) WT40 (1995-97)
Then listening became more sporadical, and nower days I listen to AT20 and WT40 (HAC) once a month + WT40 & AT40 sometimes (when I feel for it)...
In addition to those shows, sometimes (although I really have to say that it happens on rare occasions) I tune to Backtrax USA (both 80's and 90's)...

Back in the 80s and 90s I defintly listened to more shows than I do now: -AT40 -CT40 -WT40 -Scott Shannons rockin america top 30 countdown -Countdown America w/ John Leader (i didnt like the Dick clark version) -On the radio w/ Big Ron -Future hits w/ Joel Denver -The All hit radio countdown w/ Jason Taylor (this was a satelite driven countdown from somewhere in Texas, it had affiliates throughout the country and every sunday they did the countdown, it was later called "The Heat", & then apply nicknamed the show "The Heat 30") -metal shop -Pirate radio USA -Hit music USA w/ John Lander -Hitline USA -Open house party -American Dance Trax w/ Jeff Wyatt/Debra Wrath -Adam Currys Top 30 Hitlist, which later became Hitlist live hosted by Elvis Duran & Patty Steele -Countdown USA w/ Dave Sholin sp?(I heard this once or twice) -Top 30 USA w/ M G Kelly hmmmm, I think thats it. I listened a lot didnt i? Not all at the same time period of course.
Nowadays, when I get a chance, I try and listen to all the shows at the same time, since basically they are all on at the same time, sunday mornings: AT10, AT20, AT40 & Top40 Flashback. As far as Rick Dees? Well he's no longer local anymore. If I want to record his show, I usually 1st check his website to see if theres even a moderatly decent song @ #1 (Which usually there isnt IMO), and if there is, I'lll make the drive down towards either Richmond or Culpeper. Q94 Richmond & Hot101.9 Charlottesville both air his show saturday morning 6-10am.

Soon after discovering AT40, I would listen to Rick Dee's every once in a while. However, there were 3 shows that I enjoyed in particular aside from AT40.
Dick Clark's National Music Survey (1983-1985) Countdown America with John Leeder (1984-1989) *The above 2 used Radio and Records before Casey started using it. **John Leeder would feature an end-of-year countdown that had a very quick medley of songs from bottom to #2. It would be my inspiration to make medleys very similar for years to come.
I also enjoyed Joel Denver's Future Hits (1984-1994).
