Has anyone heard this yet? I’ll listen tomorrow. They are using the official Mediabase chart this time around, which is posted on the Pulse Music Board.

Listened for a few minutes tonight on the iHeart channel, and none of the songs played match the song and artist Ryan is introing/outroing. It's really weird. Like for example: He intros "Finesse" by Cardi B feat. Bruno Mars, yet "Same Old Love" by Selena Gomez starts playing. Before that, he said "Thunder" by Imagine Dragons was #22, yet "Thunderclouds" by LSD played. Anyone else noticing this?
Was going to record the show, but not this way. It's goofy as heck. Hopefully it gets cleared up.

Sounds like they're airing last week's chart with this week's intros. "Thunderclouds" was #22 last week.
Luckily, I could record it that way, strangely enough, since I also recorded it from Nile FM yesterday, which did air it correctly (save for leaving out a bumper here and there)

Listened again last night; the prior problem was fixed. Still catching a couple minor glitches; otherwise everything sounds good.

As of fan of 70s, 80s and 90s music shows, I was a little disheartened to see the title of this thread. AT40 is only counting down the Top 40 hits of 2018? I always looked forward to hearing the Top 100 songs of the year... 40 seems like an afterthought.
I noticed on the Charis site that Shadoe Stevens featured the Top 100 of 1993 but only the Top 50 of 1994. How long did Casey's Top 40 feature year-end Top 100 show? If he always featured a Top 100 on CT40, when did American Top 40's year-end countdown downsize?

Although I agree with you 100%, my understanding is that radio stations today are extremely reluctant to deviate from the regular playlist for fear of alienating listeners. They apparently consider playing the more obscure #100-51 songs of the year such a deviation. It makes no sense to me, but then again I'm not a typical radio listener.

Even though several of these songs in the lower half of the top 100 are probably still on most stations' current playlists... I think it's unnecessary to play the same countdown two weeks in a row. Since Mediabase and Co. are always keeping track of airplay, if they're only going to play a year end top 40, then why not do a regular countdown the other week? If Ryan's on vacation or something, get a guest host.

I think AT40 ended in '95 w/ the top 50 of 1994 in part cuz it was only an international show at that point.
Casey continued his Top 100 throughout the 90's on CT40 & back again on AT40 till his departure, in 2004. Ryan Seacrest took over an continued the top 100 thru the 2009 year ender. 2010 AT40 began a 2 week Top 40 year end, basically the same show just w/ different extra's added in each week.
Casey Did his Year end countdown on AT-20, a Top 60 of the year thru the year end of 2008. Casey of course retired midway 2009.
Rick Dee's stopped doing Top 100 year ends IN 2009 as the Top 100 of 2008 was his last one.
Strangely enough, Top 100's returned in 2013 when the new I-Heart Radio countdown started doing their Top 100 of the year. However, it too has now suffered the same fate, and was sadly shortened to just a top 50 for 2018.
I want to say Carson Daly still does his Top 60 of the year on the Daly Download countdown show (I did not check this year but definitely did as of 2017). Perhaps that's as close as we'll ever come moving forward.

I think it's simply because of song repeating. Whereas it was uncommon for songs to appear on more than one Top 100 chart in the past (1984/85 AT40 charts notwithstanding), it became more common in later years.
Same in regards to where songs peaked: there was a time when most of the Top 100 had hit the Top 10 on the weekly chart, but last decade we saw songs that floundered in the 20s make the year-end chart. It's mainly due to radio stations holding on to songs in their playlists longer.
Basically, why have a Top 100 when 30-50% of the songs were on the previous year's chart? I think this is why it was pared to 40.
The trend is still increasing, as now, even within the Top 40 of a year, we get a fair number of hits that had been on the previous year's Top 40. If AT40 still did a Top 100 of the year, how many songs NOW would be on more than one year-end chart? 60%? 70%?
