Hello again. Today's fantasy #1 list is from 1974. I chose more #1's this year than the previous year; however, one particular song at the beginning of the year is parked at the summit for an unprecedented SEVEN weeks in a row. This long streak is partly due to the song being my favorite song of the year and partly due to lack of worthy competition. And the same artist has two more #1's on my list for a total of ELEVEN weeks at the top. What can I say; Barry White during his prime was THE MAN! (The left column consists of Billboard #1's; the right column are my #1's.)

Yay, 1974! My fantasy top 20 starts in August of that year. My first #1 will be the same one you have during that time: "Tell Me Something Good." And you keep it on top for three weeks, no less! (My last #1, in August, 1986, also features Chaka Khan on vocals: "Higher Love," by Steve Winwood.)
I like all of your choices, save for "You and Me Against the World." I find that a bit schmaltzy. To me, "Angie Baby," written by the late, great Alan O'Day, is a cooler song.
Overall, it's been really cool to follow your lists year by year, and now it's only going to get better!

Thanks for your words of encouragement. Yeah, "Tell Me Something Good" is one infectious, funky number! However, I hold the opposite opinion concerning the Helen Reddy songs. "Angie Baby", to me, tells a rather creepy, unappealing story. "You And Me Against The World", while somewhat sappy, has a sweet melody and arrangement. Besides, I'm a sucker for any mellow song with a sweet harmonica accompaniment.

Hello again. I'm back with my next fantasy #1 list, this time for the year 1975. This particular year saw a whopping 34 songs make it to #1 on my list, second only to 1970 for most #1's in the seventies. Yet amidst many single week charttoppers I have one song in the summer that spent five weeks on top. The same artist has two other charttoppers for a total of nine weeks on top. And, like the dominant artist from 1974, his name is also Barry. But not Barry White. (The left column are Billboard #1's; the right column are my #1's.)

I like all of your choices for 1975, except "Get Dancin'." I love that you have stuck your neck out just a bit and put Manilow on top three times. I love that "The Hustle" and "Never Can Say Goodbye" are multi-week #1's. Keep it going!

Good evening, and welcome to another of my fantasy #1 lists, this time for the Bicentennial year 1976. This year has considerably fewer #1's than the previous year (only 24), and the pickings were somewhat slim in the fall. That is reflected in a good, but not great, song spending six weeks at the top, because nothing else was strong enough to overtake it until December. That particular scenario will play out many more times once I get into certain periods of the '80's. (The left column consists of Billboard #1's; the right column consists of my #1's.)
1. 1/3/76 Saturday Night/The Bay City Rollers Walk Away From Love/David Ruffin 2. 1/10/76 Convoy/C. W. Getting into 1976, the first year that my slightly older siblings and I were buying records. In fact, you put my very first 45 at #1. Yes, it was Manilow.
Carried over from the last week of '75, you made "Walk Away from Love" a six-week #1. I love that! "Right Back Where We Started From" is a four-weeker. I love that! "Moonlight Feels Right" is a four-weeker. I love that. "Lowdown" I absolutely love, but it could have been more than a two-weeker.
It's interesting that you've gone ahead and placed both versions of "I Only Wanna Be with You" at the top. Tough call.
I think you know which choice I disagree with: "Disco Duck"! Someone else on this board said that song completely ruined disco. I wouldn't go that far; I love that style of music pre- and post-"Duck." But when you've got alternatives like "Devil Woman" by Cliff Richard; "Getaway" by Earth, Wind & Fire; and "Say You Love Me" by Fleetwood Mac all at or near their real peaks that week...
I'm overthinking this, huh?

Although I understand why so many people hate "Disco Duck", I guess I have a soft spot, and a fairly high tolerance, for novelty songs, and Rick Dees' infamous hit is so goofy and outrageous, I just had to put to at #1 for ONE week. But ONLY one week, mind you. Having it at #1 for longer than that would be inexcusable.

I have enjoyed the posts on this thread. Here are my choices, beginning with 1958. Dates represent what would have been the tune's first week at No. 1 if I had a chart back then. Hello, again. My fantasy #1 list this time is for the year 1977. The year's first week (the week ending Jan 1) was the first time Billboard instituted its "Frozen Week" policy for the Hot 100 from each year-end issue. Well, Billboard may freeze charts, but I don't! Therefore, for this year and the remaining years of my project, I will still provide my choice for #1 for BB's "Frozen Weeks". Sometimes, it'll happen to be the same as the prior week; sometimes, it'll be different. (The left column consists of Billboard #1's; the right column consists of my #1's.)
