One other short #1 song I failed to mention from the 1960's was The Letter by The Box Tops--which also clocks in around 1:50. I believe that in the history of the 'Hot 100' since 1958, the only shorter #1 single than "The Letter" is another classic tune: "Stay" by Maurice Williams and The Zodiacs, which hit #1 for one week in November of 1960 and clocked in at Ramones-length 1:36. Obviously the Jackson Browne remake from '78 was a bit longer than the original. I believe it was a little less than two minutes longer. The instrumental part at the end served as filler.

Yes, and Browne's remake also featured backup vocalist Rosemary Butler taking a turn, as did noted session man David Lindley, who sang the falsetto verse.

Right Said Fred - I'm Too Sexy (2:50) #1 for 3 weeks in February 1992.

Right Said Fred - I'm Too Sexy (2:50) #1 for 3 weeks in February 1992. That's still two minutes and fifty seconds longer than it should be.

If we’re talking about Hot 100-only #1’s, then there’s Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road”, which was #1 there for 19 weeks last year and officially clocks in at 1:53. On AT40 it peaked at #4 and IIRC Ryan said it was the shortest (unedited) song there ever, though that of course only goes back to mid-1970.

"Old Town Road" set the "AT" record for shortest top 40 hit, knocking off "Mine" by Bazzi.

Now the all-time AT40 record goes to Armani White with “Billie Eilish.” I think Ryan said it’s 1:34. It’s an awful song. I hope it doesn’t hit #1.

I know it didn't hit #1 on Billboard/AT40 but may have hit #1 on R&R, was the single/radio version of "Right Here, Right Now" by Jesus Jones about 2 minutes and 50 seconds?

A few weeks ago on AT40, “Barbie World” hit #1 and Ryan did a story on how it was the shortest #1 ever (I foget the length but it was under 2 minutes) and how Nicki Minaj beat Bazzi’s record.

Shorter than "Stay"s one minute 36 seconds? Wiki still has "Stay" as the shortest: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stay_(Maurice_Williams_song)

Last week, Ryan mentioned that "Greedy" by Tate McRae was another short song at #1 at 2:07.
