“Coming up, the #1 song in the USA. It’s by the American Idol act with the most #1s on our survey. And it’s not.....Kelly Clarkson”
- Casey Kasem “American Top 20” 5/17/08
Well no sh*t since she hadn’t been anywhere near the chart in months at this point!! What moron wrote this script?!

No idea...I'll give anyone three guesses who it was, and the first two don't count. Pretty much the only Idol act who was all over the charts the previous 17 months. Couldn't go anywhere without hearing a song of theirs, which is never a bad thing - didn't get sick of their music.

I can take a cue from when Charlie Van Dyke guest hosted for Casey Kasem on AT40 on the 5/26/1984 episode: "Up next, a band with STING, and it's not the Police." (CVD was referring to the Scorpions who were on the AT40 chart with "Rock You Like a Hurricane"), and even the 11/30/1985 AT40 episode when Casey said "Up next, the highest debut by Stevie, and it's not Wonder." (refering to Stevie Nicks and her song "Talk to Me"), and in an intro to a 2002 AT40 show Casey said "A debut by one of the Osbornes, and it's not Ozzy" (refering to Kelly Osborne and her cover of Madonna's "Papa Don't Preach")

I don't think anyone listening to popular music would think Ozzy Osbourne was hitting the 40 in 2002! I get that he was huge from a pop culture standpoint in '02, but still. Of course, when Lisa Marie Presley debuted in 2003, if Casey had said, "A debut by a Presley, and it's not Elvis", that actually would have made sense seeing E had graced AT 40 in 2001

It’s really not that bad of a tease. She’d already had 4 #1s at CHR, so that was the obvious assumption for most people who didn’t/don’t follow the hot AC charts on a weekly basis like we do.
