I heard some of Rick's "hot ac" version of the Weekly Top 40 last night, and I came in in the first hour, so I noticed Rick was actually counting down the whole top 40, instead of starting with #30 and playing a bunch of extras. I also noticed that the chart he used was not the R&R Hot AC chart. Though most of the songs were the same, very few of them were in the same position as the R&R chart. I fell asleep before the end of the show, so I don't know whether #1 was the same, and I don't know whether he said on the show where the chart info came from. Anybody else listen to this show? If so, do you have any more info about this? I probably won't listen too often to this show, but I might actually listen to the first hour on occasion, if he's really playing the 31-40 songs, some of those I don't hear on the radio much if at all.

Hmmm...wonder if this is a competitive reaction to the new HAC version of AT40?

It could be, but then radio hypocrisy rears it's head in another way.....correct me if I am wrong because I never heard Casey's Hot show. Casey tried counting down the Top 25 once didn't he? But some idiocy about stations didnt like the bottom half of the whole 40 chart because they weren't playing the songs often forced a change? maybe I have AC/HAC mixed up on that.
On the bright side, if this is a response to a new HAC show, maybe we will get some competition back and make the whole countdown genre much stronger because of it. Like maybe Rick will actually do FUNNY stuff again also.

Well, your point is accurate, though you do have AC and HAC mixed up. "Casey's Hot 20" was only ever called "Casey's Hot 20" and was only ever a top 20 countdown. However, when "Casey's Countdown" first started, it was a top 25. Then, when affiliates complained, it was cut to a top 20. Which sort of reminds me of another evolution in Casey's AC show's history...

It could be that Dees himself has more freedom with the show now that he is no longer with Premiere.
I haven't heard much of the show since the move, is it any better??
Although the day AT40 or Rick Dees acknowledges their Hot AC shows on their respective websites is the day I go crazy.

It could be that Dees himself has more freedom with the show now that he is no longer with Premiere. possibly, but I can't see why premiere as a whole would have cared one way or the other, but again, possibly. I haven't heard much of the show since the move, is it any better?? nope, all he did was add 10 songs to the countdown, other than that it's the same stale jokes, same stale comments, it's as if Rick does it just for a paycheck now and doesn't care one way or the other. But like I said, maybe competition will help the situation.

You mean he actually played obscure hits that haven't yet (and some of which never will) hit the Top 30? Or did he play a few recurrents in place of those songs? You (or someone) should definitely listen next week and post the chart here.

I could be dreaming (or perhaps nodded off at the key moment), but while listening to AT20's 2/5 show, I noticed that the new song by 3 Doors Down debuted at #20. Unless I missed it, that song isn't on the corresponding AT40/HAC show. Could the charts really be THAT different or did I just miss something?

He plays #40-1... there are few specials throughout the show... at least it was like that this following weekend (I remember Stacie Orricos song playing, as it was her birthday)... Whether it was with or without recurrents it's hard to say, because it doesn't seem to be R&R chart any longer... does anyone know which chart is used for the WT40 show?!
