Chuck Berry, who to anyone's recollection didn't write music for movies (he did famously do a concert movie), was in this year's tribute, but Glen Campbell ( True Grit) wasn't. Vintage Vinyl NewsdL

The choices for the In Memoriam segment tend to be illogical. I remember a couple of years ago, the In Memoriam segment included Alex Rocco but omitted Abe Vigoda, even though both had appeared in "The Godfather", and a clip of Rocco from the film was used in the segment.
That being said, I'd have been fine if both Berry and Campbell were omitted, since they're known more for their music than their film work. There were also complaints that Adam West was omitted; again, he's known more for TV than film.
The one omission that I'd say was egregious was Dorothy Malone, since she was an actual Oscar winner. Those should probably get preference in the segment.

That reminds me of the 2016 Grammy awards. A lot of music stars had passed away within the previous few months, including Natalie Cole. That year's show did a tribute to, among other artists, the singer from Motorhead, but not Natalie. Remind me -- which of them was a Grammy winner??
(Note: Natalie did get acknowledged during the In Memoriam segment, but to me that wasn't enough.)
