I don't know if this question has been answered, but how many times on AT 40 (or CT 40) have spouses been on the show but with different singles? For example: Cynthia Rhodes was on American Top 40 (and CT 40) in May of 1989 singing with the group Animotion on "Room To Move" at the same time her then husband Richard Marx was going up the chart with "Satisfied". How many times has this happened? I honestly can't think of any other instances, with the exception of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, but surely there are more.

Carly Simon and James Taylor did it at least once. In 1977, Taylor had "Handy Man" and Simon had "Nobody Does It Better" on AT40 together.
Beyonce and Jay-Z also did it at least once. In 2009, Jay-Z had "Empire State of Mind" and Beyonce had "Sweet Dreams".

One (formerly) married couple that I instantly thought of was Carly Simon and James Taylor. In my research I discovered the following times in which they were both in the Top 40 with separate songs while married:
From 12/10/1972 to 2/10/1973, when Carly hit with "You're So Vain" and JT hit with "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight" (Both songs actually debuted in the same week.)
From 8/21/1977 to 10/1/1977, when Carly was in the Top 40 with "Nobody Does It Better" and JT was in the 40 with "Handy Man"
Then, from 10/30/1977 to 12/3/1977, while "Nobody Does It Better" was still in the Top 40, JT was in the 40 with his next hit "Your Smiling Face"
Of, course, I omitted "Mockingbird" and "Devoted To You", which they both performed together.

This may slightly bend the rule...
With simultaneous solo hits, future husband and wife -- Greg Allman and Cher -- "met" for the first time in the Top 40 on February 2, 1974.
By February 16, 1974, they were cozying up to each other in the countdown at #21 and #20.

Pre-AT40, Sonny & Cher had an interesting chart run. In August/September of 1965, Cher had a solo hit, Sonny had a solo hit and they had a duet in the Top 40--all at the same time. However, there is a dispute as to when the couple actually married. Some say they married in 1964, but other sources say it was later in the decade (1969).

If we count the Hot 100 and not AT40, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw had separate hits in early 2000, with "Breathe" and "My Best Friend", respectively.

Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown were both charting in early 1993. That is a pretty good example. I would have thought about it, if I had given it more thought. Bobby charted early in 1993 with "Get Away", and Whitney was in the midst of a 10-week run at #1 with "I Will Always Love You" and may have had the remake of Chaka Khan's "I'm Every Woman" on the top 40 at the same time period. By Christmas 1993, Whitney and Bobby had a duet together with "Something in Common" - a song that I believed expressed how strong their marriage was back then. I find it shocking that Bobby is now flying solo again, having lost his wife and daughter due to drug addiction, and I am afraid to think that Bobby might eventually overdose and die like Whitney and Bobbi did?

In 1999 and 2000, future husband and wife Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez were in the Top 40 with "I Need To Know" and "Waiting For Tonight."

It happened earlier this year with a pair of rappers: Offset and Cardi B.

Question for the advanced Chart Buffs. Did Tane Cain and her husband Jonathan Cain of Journey appear on the charts at the same time in 1982? Holding On by Tane Cane peaked at #37 back in '82.

Good thought, but I'm pretty sure "Still They Ride" had finished its run on AT 40 before she hit. There wasn't that many weeks between the two songs, though.

The Journey song's final week in the 40 was the week before Tane Cain debuted on the 'Hot 100'.
