Here is another chart concidence: I was listening to the American Top 40 show from August 7, 1976 the other day, and Sonny Melendrez, who was guest hosting for Casey that week, mentioned that Elton's song "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" with Kiki Dee became his 6th No. 1 of the 1970's. At the time, Elton had the lead for the most No. 1 hits for any artist in the 70's. What makes this interesting is that at the time, Elton had 6 No. 1 hits at the time, and The Bee Gees had only 2 No. 1 in the 1970's. Well, 4 weeks later, on September 4, 1976, the Bee Gees' "You Should Be Dancing" knocked "Breaking" out of the No. 1 spot on the charts. To put this into prespective, between September 1976-June 1979, Elton John had only 5 Top 40 hits, but only 1 Top 10 hit, and no Top 5's, while the Bee Gees scored with 7 No. 1 hits in that same period. So, when "Dancing" knocked "Breaking" out of the Number 1 spot in September '76, it was like the passing of the touch for who would be the most successful artist of the '70's. In that 33 month span, Elton went through his dry period on the charts, the Bee Gees were red-hot. Some chart information I thought I would share with you.
