As we all know, part of AT 40 now is the segment, "Tell Me Something Good", in which Ryan uses segments from his morning show on Kiss FM out of LA (and syndicated throughout). It go me thinking: what type of permission does the show have to get, if any, to air a segment from another show? It might be that Ryan is given exclusive permission because of the connection between KISS, IHeart, and AT 40, but Dees over the years has done it many times. The one that truly sticks out to me was the 1-2-99 (or somwehere around that time) show in which Cher was his "guest" on the top 40 show. Someone called in to tell Cher and Rick they had found Sonny's wedding ring, I believe, which had been lost for decades. I looked up an article and the interview actually happened on KISS FM when Dees was the morning DJ.
I know Dees created his show because of the changes made with AT40 after Watermark took over, and I'm sure that the KISS connection has allowed Ryan and Rick exclusive access to using the morning shows through the years. I just wondered if anyone knew if KISS had an agreement with the shows or if they had the rights to use content from KISS shows whenever they pleased? It is interesting that since 1984, KISS FM has been a part of our top 40 listening in some form or another.

All of Ryan's stuff is syndicted by Premiere and owned by Premiere/iHeart.
It would be no different than Casey combining content on AT20 and AT10 back in the day. It's all essentially the same show; AT40 and On Air.

However, I'm sure he didn't have the rights to his morning show on KISS. I wonder what agreement was in place between the two parties?

But I don't know that there was ever really a time that Dees's countdown show was ever produced by a company that was at odds with KIIS. By 1993 and probably before that Dees owned his countdown show. Truth is he may have owned it from the beginning and USRN or whatever it was and later ABC and Premiere were just distributing it. So there'd be no issue in him using stuff from his morning show on it outside of maybe signing some legal documents.

If there is no direct conflict, then aside from signing something there probably never was a major issue.
