on www.thefoxoldies.comThe rankings were extensively compiled by comparing the airplay of Classic Rock stations across the 20 largest markets in the U.S. There will be many facts about the songs and many interviews with the artists. The first segment begins on Friday at 9AM EDT and runs until 9PM. Then it will repeat overnight. The 2nd segment will start then at 9AM EDT on Saturday and run the same way as Friday. The 3rd and 4th segments will play on Sunday and Monday respectively. It will be a great way to spend the holiday weekend!

So, if my math is correct, this will be a 48-hour radio show with an average of about 10-11 songs per hour but not filled with a ton of commercials.

Their are very few commercials and the total time runs around 40 hours or so. The 2 segments on Monday will just be shorter. The first 12 hours just averaged 12 songs per hour.

^Very few commercials huh! They have been in a commercial break for about 20 minutes. Guess that is to be expected when they run the same forecast the whole weekend and it is not even very accurate! Repeating ads too as happened in that AT40 show posted about just now. Must be something that happens this time of the day. Did not happen in the next break however. Not sure if that long commercial break resulted in a skipped segment. I lost track of where they were before it happened.
Does not look like they skipped a segment. Because they have gone past the top of the hour with this segment. Today they ran songs 220-91. Leaves the top 90 for tomorrow. I am guessing something short of 9 hours to finish it.

Here is what Sam said about what happened: Sam: Yeah I noticed the countdown is off about 20 mins. I have no idea what caused that to play 20 mins of commercials. There is no reason for it. It wasnt programmed. The system just went nuts I guess. Sorry. I'm guessing about 8 hours to finish up today and then it will repeat again like the other days. They are playing mostly full length versions so it takes longer than you would typically expect.

Looks like I win the guessing game on how long the top 90 would take as we are just inside the top 10 now. Heard most of the second half of this and bits and pieces of the bottom half(the 500). Fave story was the one about how Jim Steinman and Meatloaf got Phil Rizzuto to do the play by play for "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". Told him it was not dirty! Ha! Honorable mention goes to the story about how my man Diamond Dave lost the argument with Eddie Van Halen and left the group about not going to synthesizers for the 1984 album. Can understand why Dave wanted to stick with the guitar sound of their first 5 albums but Eddie was proven right with the commercial success of that album. Although Diamond Dave gets a bit of a last laugh when you consider that it was their debut album that had 6 of its songs in this countdown and not the 1984 Lp. Fave version of an AT40 song that was never played that way by Casey goes to the just played "Another Brick in the Wall" in which I think all 3 parts were played. The vinyl Lp had the 3 parts on 3 separate sides of the album IIRC but Sam combined them into the one song. Most accurate statement was made by Head East's lead singer when he said the best era of classic rock is from the late 60s to the early 80s. Although this countdown has a wider range of years than that. Sam said the song that was recorded earlier than any other was the Animals' "House of the Rising Sun" in May 1964. Newest song I heard was Tom Petty's "Mary Jane's Last Dance" from 1994 so about a 30 year range. (Only other 90s songs I heard were "November Rain" , "Enter Sandman" and "Silent Lucidity"...surprised none of Queensryche's rockers made the survey as did G 'n R's). Word that stood out more than any other from an interview was 'virtuosity'. Steve Perry talked about adding to the instrumental virtuosity of Journey with his vocal virtuosity. Well said! And well done Sam.

Thank you dukelightning! I also agree with your post about the fav story. Jim Steinman told a great story. It was long, but well worth it. Another one I'm not sure if you could understand because The Young brothers from AC DC are hard to understand was the one where they watched Brian Johnson before he joined the group. They thought he was rolling around on the stage and acting like he was having a fit but in reality his appendix had burst. Looks like somebody covered me on the 20 mins of commercials. I used to use a payed program for my station but found oddly enough Radio DJ which is a free one has more options. I have been using it for almost 2 years and I have never seen it wig out like it did. Why in the world it played 20 mins of commercials is beyond me. Unfortunately I was out of the studio and was not listening when it happened. It happens! As for the same commercials running over and over. I have just enough ads to cover my cost and a little more. I could go out and sell and do like most and overwhelm the station with spots. But I am more interested in just playing 3 mins an hour and sharing my love for music. Commercials should be the only repeating thing on the station. Not the music. Thanks for your comments!

It was an unmatched production compared to any other Top 500 countdown this weekend. Tons of information about the music and artists.
