Steve Winwood? From the Spencer Davis/Blind Faith/Traffic days, then a brief flirtation with the charts in the early 80's, then hitting huge with the 'Back In the High Life' and "Roll With It" era of his career.

Nobody mentioned Rick Springfield, he first hit AT40 in 1972 with "Speak to the Sky" then disappeared and returned big in the 1980's.

Chicago had a nice run in the 70s, but an early 80s lull lead to a string of massive power ballads.

In the 1960's, Eddy Grant made the top 40 in the pre AT40 years as a member of the Equals with "Baby Come Back", and then in the 1980's hit AT40 solo with 2 top 40 hits - "Electric Avenue" and "Romancing the Stone".

The thread is..."Artists who were big, disappeared, and came back BIGGER!" I'm not sure one #32 song qualifies as a big artist.

Carmen left Raspberries and scored a #2 All By himself. Twelve years later Eric would return Dancing his way to back to back top fivers.

On the Hot AC version of AT40, Ryan mentioned this weekend that Papa Roach had their first hit since "Scars" in 2005, which peaked at #39. This week, they're up a notch to #26 with "Leave A Light On." I don't think they had any Hot AC hits prior to "Scars." But it did perform much better on CHR and I think it was the first song to spend 50 weeks on the countdown.
