This question is for anyone who is in the NY area or listens online. I went to their website just now and there was no mention of their annual local Top 100 of the year. Did they do one? Or did they finally air AT40's Top 100?

Funny, if you hear the show opening for AT40 before the #50 song, Ryan says he is doing the show from New York. I'm sure Ryan is really pleased Z100 is doing its annual premption of the year end show.

I'm sure Ryan is really pleased Z100 is doing its annual premption of the year end show. My guess is that is purely theater of the mind. Ryan was obviously in NYC for Dick Clark's New Year's show (which totally became Ryan's show this year, in my opinion...) on 12/31. So he said that he was in NYC for the 12/30-31 edition of AT40, which had probably been taped weeks earlier...in California.

The only reason I would disagree with you is he did make reference to "by the time you hear this show, the ball may or may not have dropped." So if he will go that far in saying the show is taped, why would he lie about where he was as opposed to just saying nothing. Plus for the people who heard it on Saturday or even Sunday morning he could have flown right after the show to NYC. IMO, I tend to think he was in NYC taping the show personally.

Doubt it highly, but we'll likely never know.

Hi,
I used to live just north of New York City. I moved in 2002. It used to bother me that even after AT 40 cam back to NYC in 1999, Z100 would always pre-empt the top 100 of the year and instead air their own top 100. I'm sorry to hear this is still going on. Has anyone ever been given a reason for why Z100 does this ever year. Why would they go out of their way NOT to air AT 40 top 100 of the year?

I called years ago (back when Casey was still doing the show) and was told that they didn't want to "confuse" their listeners. I think we'd once had a thread going on the previous incarnation of this message board on exactly this topic.
Suffice it to say...listeners getting confused between the national top 100 (which would air ONCE) and the NYC top 100 (which they air a bajillion times from Christmas through New Year's) is a HIGHLY unlike proposition.

Scott There's also the fact that the LOCAL hosts were doing the LOCAL one, and a NATIONAL guy who hosted the NATIONAL countdown doing the other which would be a strong clue as to what you were listening to. And then there is the overriding fact that no other city in America had confused listeners when the national/local YE shows aired. No offense, if NYC listeners get confused over that, there is something seriously wrong. And no, I don't think they would be confused in the slightest.
