I was wondering, does anyone know how the chart used on this show was figured? I haven't heard the whole show yet, but have found several inconsistencies on the chart. At first, I was assuming that they used the R&R Mainstream AC chart for the first few months and then used the R&R Hot AC chart when it debuted in late April, but I don't know about that. For instance, there are two Michael Bolton songs on there. "Said I Loved You...But I Lied" was number 24, even though it spent five weeks at #1 (within the time frame) and eighteen weeks on the chart. Two steps above, we have "Completely", which spent only a single week at #1 and thirteen weeks on the chart. Did they use Mainstream AC stats past April 22 or what?
Just wondering if anyone happens to know how they compiled this chart?

Casey, Don Bustany, and Norm Pattiz sat in chairs and threw darts at a wall with songs listed on it. Each of the darts were numbered, and so the song that each dart hit was placed in that spot on the year-end countdown.

I always assumed that is how Rick Dees' year end charts were configured. Then, of course, for the Hot AC show, you take out all the CHR/Pop exclusive songs and pick songs from the previous year's year-end and add those in.
I was just listening to the 2004 Dees year end countdown, and had to laugh. "Bright Lights" by Matchbox 20 is at both # 98 and # 6 At least the CHR/Pop show isn't the priority....

what? twice on one chart? That had to be an engineering error or writing error of some kind. I remember listening to 20 The Countdown Magazines Top 98 of 1998 and Jon Rivers announced "My Will" by DC Talk was some number in the 20's or 30's I think (yet they played Into Jesus), then he announced it again later in the Top 10 correctly. So, it is at least not exclusive to Dees's shows.

Well, I listened to the whole show (number one was "Now And Forever" by Richard Marx, just like on the Mainstream AC chart).
The show seemed to favor songs from April 22 on, as every song that was in the Top Ten during that period made it, but several AC Top Ten songs from the first few months of the year were absent. At least the list was more accurately figured than the Top 30 of the 1990s. Several songs that spent weeks and weeks at #1 were nowhere to be found on the list ("Don't Speak" was played as an "extra" - whatever!).
The Top 20 of that chart was made of songs that charted during the Plays Per Week era (which debuted in late May, 1994) while songs 21-30 were alternative-based songs that charted before May, 1994 - songs that would do well on today's Hot AC charts. However, back in the early 1990s, Hot AC radio did not play that type of songs. Back then, Hot AC was much like Mainstream AC is today.
All in all, the Top 35 of 1994 was a very good show and I enjoyed listening to it very much.

Paul,
All it was is that Bright Lights was at #98 on the Pop show (it was not played, just mentioned) and that segment was on the Hot AC show, but then one of the Hot AC only segments at #6 played Bright Lights.

Does anyone by chance have a copy of Rick's Top 100 Hot AC of 2004?

I don't think it is an error, so much as it is just not caring about the Hot AC version of the show. From what I can tell, the CHR/Pop version of the show is recorded, and then they try to use as much of that show, as well as bits from recent shows to make the Hot AC show. Therefore, there will be much chart information from the CHR/Pop show that makes its way to the Hot AC show.
